Costa Rican Authorities Intercept Containers of Cocaine and Cash

Work carried out by the drug control police (PCD) of the Ministry of Public Security allowed them to intercept two trailer trucks carrying cocaine and cash in the area of Peñas Blancas close to the Nicaragua border.

PCD arrested a 29-year-old man of last name Diaz and with a criminal record for murder. The driver intended to leave the country in route to Nicaragua, when the agents checked the tractor trailer truck they discovered 20 packets of cocaine.

A second trailer truck was intercepted when it entered Costa Rica from Nicaragua, in this case, agents found a total $509,780.00. The driver was a 62-year-old native of Guatemala and the trailer originated from Mexico.

Also, in the evening hours of Sunday, officers from the National Coast Guard Service in Moin, Limon, intercepted a boat carrying drugs, firearms and ammunition.

The boat was carrying 18 kilograms of cocaine, an AK-47, two revolvers and 3218 ammunition of different calibers. Two men were arrested, one of them of Jamaican origin and the other a Costa Rican.

This past weekend, the Judiciary Investigative Police also detained four fishermen in Puntarenas aboard a boat carrying 1200 kilograms of cocaine.
