Moin Container Terminal in Limon Costa Rica Begins Operation

The Container Terminal in Moin, Limon, began operations this past week in a first stage, although officially it won’t be inaugurated until February 2019.
The terminal expects to be servicing an average 10 vessels a week by the start of 2019, increasing gradually the number of services offered.
“The start of operations of the Moin Container Terminal broadens the scene of our international commerce, both exports and imports, placing us next to the big ones, allowing us access to new routes, to receiving bigger vessels and in general visualize a more competitive future for the country”, said the Minister of Foreign Commerce, Dyalá Jiménez.

The first vessel docked on Saturday, after the National Concession Council gave green light to APM Terminals to begin the operations, the first vessel was “Capitán Beatrice” which was carrying 2500 refrigerated containers of which it unloaded 300 to fill and exportation of national products.
The second vessel docked this past Monday, the Polar Mexico, which unloaded at the JAPDEVA port but then moved to the APM terminal to upload 700 containers of pineapple and banana and transport this Costa Rican products to Europe. The Polar Peru is expected to arrive by the end of this week from Panama and will be unloading 600 container and uploading another 600 of national fruit to be transported to Europe.
“The first vessel was serviced without problems and in a safe way”, said general director of APM Terminals, Kenneth Waugh, who also explained that personnel has been in training for the past 90 days.
