President Donald Trump has offered State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert the job of U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, an administration official told DailyMail.com on Thursday.
Fox News Channel and ABC News reeporters first broke the news. It's unclear whether Nauert has accepted the role, which would thrust her onto the world stage in place of outgoing ambassador Nikki Haley – a Trump favorite.
Nauert took over State Department spokeswoman duties in April 2017 after years at ABC News and a stint as an anchor at Fox News.

If the U.S. Senate confirms her, Nauert will replace Ambassador Nikki Haley (left), a former South Carolina governor who has been a favoriteof President Donald Trump

Her current title is acting Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, a slot she assumed after Trump fired his first secretary of state, Rex Tillerson.
Nauert's deputy, Robert Palladino, was also asked at a news briefing whether she had been offered the job and said any announcement would be the prerogative of the White House.
Haley will leave her post at the end of the year. Nauert will require Senate confirmation to succeed her.
Unlike Haley, she has no practical policy-making or political experience.
Trump met with her Monday in the Oval Office, according to the official.

Do you know the girl that goes through the headlines on Fox and Friends every 15 or so minutes? Not the people on the couch but the girl reading the headlines?

Four years ago that was Heather Nauert. No qualifications for this position whatsoever.

On April 24, 2017, the United States Department of State announced that Nauert would be the new State Department spokesperson, her first role in government.

I was thinking the same thing.

But.....

Nikki Haley was tremendous in the job. She was the Governor of South Carolina. How does that prepare one to be Ambassador to the UN?

I trust Trump's judgement. His cabinet selections have been mostly superb as was Nikki Haley. I give Heather Nauert a vote of confidence.

Haley has been a civil servant in some capacity since 1998. Nauert has been working in the government for a year.

You think being a civil servant prepares you for any tough job?

I wouldn't hire a civil servant to do anything. Government workers are amongst the most clueless.

Trump knows this. I'm sure there's somebody but virtually all of Trump's cabinet members were filled by people from the private sector and the military. That is a marked departure from all the politicians who preceded him. Oh yea. Just thought of an exception - Jeff Sessions. How's he doing?

I trust Trump's judgement and think Heather will do fine.

Of course it does when being hired to work in a top civil servant position.

You need to know the governmental system. You need to know the people. Don't let your love for Trump cloud your judgement on this topic. She's not experienced.

I am not seeing where you are including "you need someone glamourous." She can keep the position glamourous and that's saying a lot...:neenee:

Don't ever compare the Government to the private sector. If you work in the private sector
you're expected to produce results. If you work for the Government you're only required to
show up.

I've worked in the Federal Government for 20+ years now. You don't know what you're talking about.
