November 1st The Costa Rican Judiciary Police (OIJ) announced the arrest of two men suspected of being responsible of a death threat made to the US ambassador Sharon Day.
According to the information provided, this investigation began back in September 7, 2017, when the FBI received an email with threats directed to the US ambassador to Costa Rica. The email was received in an open line meant to receive confidential information. The investigation of the FBI determined that the email originated from a Costa Rican IP address at which point they get in touch in with OIJ to get assistance in the case.

The IP address directed the authorities to a house in Tres Rios, where the police agents arrested a man of last name Ortiz and another of last name Soto, after questioning the suspects, they are able to determine that Ortiz is the owner of the house while Soto is a family member that lives in the same property but apparently has some mental health problems, this was verified through a medical file and the suspect was therefore transferred to forensic psychiatric specialists to be evaluated. Ortiz, apparently had no participation in the incident, although he is still under investigation; the authorities seized the computer equipment found in the house as well as other documents as evidence and to continue the proper investigation.
The US Embassy in Costa Rica has not commented on the matter, current US Ambassador to Costa Rica is Sharon Day who was appointed in July last year and sworn in as ambassador October 2017.
