Brutal beat last night on Wofford. Just awful. That’s how it’s gone all year. That and I’ve sucked!!!

Let's see if I can swing things a little. Going back to a very brief write up on each play when time permits. This is not my full handicap but a way for me to make sure I am staying consistent and so you have a good reason to fade!!!

    12/22/2018 (49-51-1, -19.00)

Rutgers -12.5, 1u: Huge advantage on the offensive glass. Rutgers a strong defensive team who can't score but Columbia can't stop anyone.

Long Beach State -4.5, 1u: Why can't I stop playing them? Experienced team, tough schedule. Every year it pays off. CSU can't exploit Niners vulnerability on the glass.

San Francisco -8.5, 1u: Name recognition stops this line from moving to 12. Better team at home with a chance to knock off a big name.

Kansas -3.5, 1u: I'll be the only one in the world on KU. Guard play is too good and no one can check Lawson. Revenge spot as well.

San Diego -6.5, 1u: Experienced mid major gets a "big name" on a neutral. More likely to treat Vegas like business and have already played three very good teams close on the road.

Saint Louis +9, 1u: Can keep FSU off the offensive glass. Defends very well. Too many points on a neutral even in the state of Florida.

FGCU +17, 1u: FGCU turning it around slowly. Too many points against a Gators team that defends but doesn't do anything well on offense. "Neutral" fans of St. Louis and FSU turn this into home game for FGCU.

Ohio State -6, 1u: Too public, makes me uneasy but UCLA is so bad. Buckeyes can lock them up defensively and should have far more fans in Chicago. Not sure how the Bruins score in this one.

North Carolina -2.5, 1u: Another public blood bath most likely but I can't help it. Kentucky's best win is Utah at home and they've struggled. Wildcats don't defend well especially the three. UNC can shoot it.

Indiana State +8, 1u: Who treats the trip to the islands and the early start more like a business trip? I'll take the mid-major trying for a name win against the Buffaloes who've played a soft schedule.

Hope the time off did some good!

    12/29/2018 (53-57-1, -21.60)

Louisville Cardinals +3, 1 unit: First true road game for a young Kentucky team coming off a huge win. Tough spot for them.

Nevada Wolfpack -7, 1 unit: Every time Utah has stepped up in class they've gotten destroyed. Wolfpack know this could be last hurdle to entering tourney undefeated and last possible big win.

Georgia Southern Eagles +8.5, 1 unit: Battle of tempos....sleepy spot for Dayton, like GSU's chance to stay within the number.

Princeton Tigers +15, 1 unit: Sun Devils coming off huge win. Conference play up next. Princeton's tempo makes it tough.

Seton Hall Pirates -3, 1 unit: Red Storm haven't played anyone. Pirates are battle tested and gaining confidence.

Long Beach State 49ers +11.5, 1 unit: Please make me stop.

Belmont Bruins +12, 1 unit: Experienced team, have played a tough schedule. Students still on break so home court advantage is diminished. Purdue does not defend very well.

Creighton Blue Jays +2.5, 1 unit: Experienced, efficient offensive team...don’t think Providence can expose their shortcomings on D.

    Thanks indy....Happy New Year!

    1/2/2019 (59-59-1, -17.80)

Texas Tech Red Raiders -4, 1 unit: WVU not the same without Konate and the turnovers and pressure will actually come from Texas Tech.

Butler Bulldogs -8.5, 1 unit: An upset defensive minded team shuts down a Georgetown team that isn't ready for this environment.

Oklahoma Sooners +7.5, 1 unit: Tested defensive minded team ready to compete against a Jayhawk team that hasn't looked quite right.

Thanks indy, G and Hache...rough year. Still time to turn it.

    1/5/2019 (60-61-1, -19.00)

Ohio State +1.5, 1 unit: No Langford is a problem against the defensive minded Buckeyes.

Clemson +15, 1 unit: Slow tempo, Blue Devils haven’t played in awhile, Tigers can’t beat Duke but always play them close.

Utah +8.5, 1 unit: Utes record isn’t pretty but their losses are to good teams. Big number to give in a grinder.

Florida State +9, 1 unit: Sensing a theme today. A lot of points in a grinder. Cavs with only two top 50 wins.

Another losing night for me. Clearly I am horrible at this and no matter what I do I'm going to suck so fade everything.

IF YOU FOLLOW OR FADE MY PICKS, PLEASE READ: I've spent the last few days figuring out why I am struggling so badly. Here's the short version (there's more but no one wants to read an essay): I've been trying to make picks that are "sharp" instead of correct. It is my belief that the old adage "books want equal money on both sides" is not true and that they take a side sometimes. What I am starting to realize is that those times in college basketball are not the same as football because there are too many games and too many unknowns especially in the smaller conferences. Books are essentially using Kenpom to set lines and then adjusting slightly based on name recognition, etc...The bottom line is I may still lose and I might lose even more than before but I am back with what is comfortable to me. I sincerely welcome all constructive feedback. If you just want to tell me I'm an idiot....I already know that.

Never mind. I’m cursed. Providence up 3 at end of regulation and also 1st OT. Georgetown ties on two prayers and then covers.
