Former Costa Rican Soccer Boss Eduardo Li on Supervised Release – FIFA Bribery Case

Former president of the Costa Rican Soccer Federation (FEDEFUTBOL), Eduardo Li is now in supervised release after serving nine months in prison and a period on parole determined the Court of the State of New York; Li is now free to return to Costa Rica, if he wishes to do so.
Eduardo Li was arrested back in May 27, 2015 in Switzerland as a suspect of accepting kickbacks and bribes for the commercialization of marketing and broadcasting rights of the elimination games of the Costa Rican male National Soccer Team on its way to the World Cup Russia 2018 to US media company Traffic. Li spent time in prison in Switzerland and was later extradited to the United States in December 2015 where he sent 82 days in prison in Brooklyn, he later was given house arrest in New Jersey where he spent 230 days, he then was authorized to spend the rest of the sentence in an apartment in Florida with a GPS ankle bracelet; he pleaded guilty on Friday, October 7, 2016, of three of the 14 charges against him, racketeering conspiracy, wire fraud, and wire fraud conspiracy.

During his statement Li affirmed he had taken $90,000.00 from the funds sent by FIFA to the Costa Rican Soccer Federation or organize the female world championship in 2014, through the use of fake invoices, this information allowed Fedefutbol to file a lawsuit against him in Costa Rica, case which is still open in the country.
The FIFAGate bribery case involves 42 individuals and over $200 million in bribes and kickbacks.
