Do you Bama experts/fans think Bama can win title without Tua? A 50% Tua?

Sometimes I talk trash about the SEC and BAMA—actually it is usually more directed at those that parrot the “greatest of all time” type suggestions and “they’re unbeatable” tripe. As I have ALWAYS said, Bama is THE premier program of the last 10 years. Sometimes I get fed up with the special treatment they are afforded and lament the other SEC hangers-on and have to poke some folks in the ribs about this. However, this is a legit question to those of you that love Bama. Can Bama win the Sec title game with a gimpy Tua? If they don’t, do they still deserve to get into the title game no matter what and get the same advantage they got last year? Get healthy and get a possibly undeserved spot in the playoff? Will Tua then be healthy and Bama return to its seemingly unbeatable form? Just curious what you guys are thinking? As a Clemson fan, I think Clemson and perhaps Georgia are the only teams that can beat Bama with Tua. That’s assuming Trevor Lawrence continues to improve with the 2/3 remains games and almost two months of continued practice and all. If Tua is 50% or less, I think Oklahoma and Michigan can also compete with Bama. Thoughts?

Clemson nor Georgia can compete with Bama with healthy Tua...neither team would be within 21 points.
Okla and mich cant stay within 30 without Tua...
I HATE bama but its just true...

They won national title without him last year. Yes
Not really. Unless I am remembering wrong. Didn't Bama fall behind and Tua came in and saved their ass?
But I think they can. If they played the season 100 times over without Tua, how many times would they win it? That is the real question.

“assuming Trevor Lawrence continues to improve”...

What does Clemson do with a 50% or less Trevor? Not win a Natty, or make it to the final game, I would say...

Tua is a much more important piece to Bama than Lawrence is to Clemson but yes I agree, if Lawrence got hurt, it would be much like last year where they would stack the box against Clemson and make them one dimensional.

also, Bama did not win the title with hurts. Hurts blows. They were getting demolished by Georgia until they put in Tua. He single handedly won the game.

and the narrative that Bama is automatically 3 tds better is brainwashed drivel taken straight from the propaganda machine known as espn. They lost way too much in their defensive secondary, something like 90% of their nickel starts. If you watch the games, teams like Arkansas moved the ball easily and there were all sorts of blown assignments versus LSU and miss st that their shitbag qbs couldn’t activate.

Bama looked unbeatable early in the season because of their unreal offense behind an unreal Tua. Their d is nowhere near the level it was the past 2-3 years. Uga at 100% or Clemson at 100% with Lawrence a full season under his belt are at most 7 pt underdogs versus Bama with a healthy Tua. With a hurt Tua or hurtz, I think it would be a pick to 2-3 points and I would take Clemson or Georgia.

hurts is 25-2 as a starter (or something like that). tua is playing incredible but hurts is still a very solid backup and with the right gameplan can beat anyone in the cfp.

tua isnt more important than lawrence either. hurts knows the gameplan and is a veteran who knows the moment. he has started 2 national championship games and understands what his coach needs him to do. lawrence goes down and they bring in Chase Brice. had a nice game against Syracuse but he isnt hurts...not even close. Jalen hurts had 1 int last year....1! bama has a young secondary, its still a good one and its get better each and every week. its still alabama, they are still the best and you just dont like them.

If tua plays 75%+ they win vs anybody. Without him Clemson and Georgia can win. But yes win or lose vs uga they deserve a spot. Imo..Still would like to see The Irish or Michigan to lose in that scenario. Wouldn’t be undeserving this year after the way the team as a whole has played.
But in a perfect world I wanna a healthy Alabama Vs a healthy Clemson in Championship Game!!

no I don’t “like them,” but I respect them calling them the best program of the last 10 years. I didn’t say their defense sucked either BR. All I said was that they are not unbeatable. Hurts is nothing more than a game manager who was carried with two loaded teams. He was going to lose the game last year until Tua came in an saved them. Tua is definitely more important than Lawrence because he is that much better than Lawrence right now when he is healthy. If Lawrence is out, Clemson is undoubtedly not as good, but they have relied more on their defense and running game this year. Give Lawrence one more year in the weight room and to learn a little more Tua like touch on deep throws and he will elevate to tua’s level in my opinion.

This whole thing has gone sideways anyway. I don’t know why everyone gets so defensive over Bama. They’re awesome. They have won a bazillion titles. I never said they sucked. Clearly they don’t. I just get tired of current lazy sports media where every current team is the best ever. Obviously some of these statements and opinions are borne out of jealousy because I am the fan of a small school in a small town in a small state. But Clemson played Bama to a virtual draw for 10.5 quarters in the playoffs/championships in 15-16-17. Bama’s overwhelming mature and talented d finally was too much for Kelly Bryant and Clemson’s thinnest most immature skill talent in Dabo’s era in the last quarter plus of last year’s game. That being said, I think Bama, Clemson, and Uga are 1a-1b-1c and then there is a fairly steep drop off. To me Ohio st (when healthy and focused which they are neither right now) and Oklahoma are really the only two other teams that could do something if they played an A+ game and the other 3 played a C- or D game. However, the purpose of this thread wasto ask Bama fans if they thought Bama legitimately was still a runaway fave with tua’s seemingly deteriorating health. Because frankly I think there is some value in betting against Bama right now. Just my 2 cents.

alabama has always won without a star at qb. so it would be nothing knew for them to rely on the talent across the rest of the field to win a championship. now that they have a qb, and a great one at that, only furthers the gap.
i didnt think clemson was ever in the game last year, even when they had the ball after the turnover to start the second half alabama smothered them. to me it was a dominant alabama win.
anyone can beat anyone, but id much rather have either bama qb than lawrence, especially with the pressure of the games from here on out.
clemson hasnt seen a good defense yet, we are likely overrating their offense at this point.

Maybe, but Ettiene and Higgins are the real deal. Imo, Higgins has a legitimate shot to become one of the best receivers we’ve ever seen. Definitely has everything there talent and physique wise, and a prospering QB with a cannon of arm to do it. Time will tell...
