With Alex Smith done for the rest of the season, the Washington Redskins are reportedly bringing in a trio of familiar names to workout for the team's backup quarterback position.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Redskins will bring in Mark Sanchez, TJ Yates and EJ Manual in for a workout on Monday.

Redskins are bringing in a group of QBs to work out on Monday, including EJ Manuel, TJ Yates and Mark Sanchez, per sources. Washington needs a new backup for starting QB Colt McCoy.

</twitter-widget>NFL.com's Ian Rapoport added that Kellen Clemens will also be part of Washington's quarterback workout.

The #Redskins are having a group of veteran FA QBs come in and work out tomorrow following the season-ending injury to Alex Smith: EJ Manuel, Kellen Clemens, Mark Sanchez, and TJ Yates, sources say. They need a backup.

</twitter-widget>The Redskins need to add one of these three quarterbacks as they currently have no one backing up Colt McCoy, who stepped into the starting spot after Smith broke his leg against the Texans on Sunday.

Why not Kapernick?

A) Three Redskins assistants are connected to Sanchez’s NFL career. OC Matt Cavanaugh was Jets’ QB Coach 2009-2012. OL Coach Bill Callahan was Jets’ OL Coach 2008-2011. Passing Game Coordinator Kevin O’Connell was Jets’ backup QB 2009-2010.

B) His skills don't override the controversy he brings to a team.
