A buddy of mine went to IU in the early eighties. He had long hair and Knight told him to shave his hair or get cut. He told Knight "but Jesus had long hair". Knight walked him down to the pool and said "if you can walk across the water, you can keep your hair". Classic

For all his greatness, how much greater could he have been had he toned down on some of the cussing and intensity in order to land a higher caliber level of recruit. For someone who always preached discipline, he himself wasn't disciplined enough to adapt to the changing times. That said, obviously from a coaching standpoint he's virtually unmatched.

Why some men believe that letting angrier control you is a virtual instead of a vice I'll never understand...One would think military men would have that ingrained in them in how to control their angrier.

Knight is a child that never grew up...and will die still being a child.

I never understood how he could become part of the enemy he hated so much at the end of his career. His hatred of the media was spot on and part of the reason I liked him so much but to work for ESPN after his coaching career ended was baffling for me and I lost respect for him when he did it.

By the way, if you want to see some vintage Bob Knight, youtube episodes of the Bob Knight Show. It aired on Sundays each week during the season and was always a must see. His interaction with the host of the show Chuck Marlowe is priceless. Chuck took a lot of shit.

knight was a great coach and a very volatile human being that couldn't accept losing nor stupidity.
he crossed the line many times during his tantrums, but won often enough that others looked
the other way until he went too far.
