-14 1/2 now

Does it even need to be explained?

OU;s Defense has horrible technique, watching the Texas game both D's looked young, weak and got manhandled. Missed tackles everywhere, arm tackles, penalties, manhandled at LOS. DB taking horrible angles, ect. All these things cannot be fixed in a week. It's 3-4 thousand hours of practice, weight room and maturity.

OU seems like the only P-5 powerhouse team that has not been manhandled by Bama recently. Maybe my me is bad but I don't remember they have played Bama recently. That means the books can sell OU as a team with a chance, at+14, thus sucking all the stupid oil money. -14 is way off, Bama's D can beat OU alone with -14, That means you are getting TUA or Hurts and that power running game for free.

Watch out for a surprise in the ND/Clemson game. Lets see what times and sequence these games are being played. Yes, Clemson covered nicely vs Pitt but did not dominate as they should have. The same thing with South Carolina game. I've seen a coach in distress, because the team is not performing up to his expectations. Dabo is easy to read, and he did not like what he saw in 1st half of Pitt.

MRI on Tua confirms high ankle sprain. He is tentatively scheduled for surgery tomorrow in Gulf Breeze, Fl at the Andrews Institute with Dr. James Andrews to have it scoped. Will be out around 2 weeks. Same surgery as Jalen had a few weeks ago.

according to a booster I know Tua needs surgery on the ankle... probably hitting the news circuit shortly and should drop the line a bit

With Tua they win by 27, with Jalen not sure they win by 15

(still have a month to recover but would be similar surgery that Jalen had this season)

Both Texas and OU's defenses were so bad, I did not really look to see what good things OU did on offense to score 39 on Texas. As for the injury it will make very little difference in this game. Bama will be able to run on OU just like GT did on VT. GT threw one pass and it was incomplete, then went off for 500+ yards and 40+ points on a very similar defense in relative terms.

If surgery is announced, and the 14 1/2 drops BUY MORE BAMA.

Bama's front 7 is as good as it gets. OU won't be running on it, nor will they throw anything deeper then 10 yards before their QB is running for his life.

I haven't watched Murray that closely, he will need to throw the ball with deadly accuracy into extremely tight spots vs Bama's iron tight man under D. Bama's corners are physical and force back shoulder throws or throws into the tightest of spaces. If Murray thinks he is going to run wild on Bama's defense he is in for a rude and violent awakening.

I think the only two teams that had a chance to keep Bama inside of a number were UGA and Clemson. I am starting to change my thoughts on Clemson. They are not the same team.

OU defense is underrated. They play in a pass happy conference. And they score so fast their D is on the field often.
See: Air Coryell.
With a month to heal and prepare they will do better than expected on D. And Hurt is good but if Tua can’t go OU is less exposed.
And Bama has not seen anything like the OU offense: great OL, great QB, strong WRs and RBs.
I’m not calling OU to cover (yet) but I’m not buying the narrative that they will get blown out.
Georgia D was overwhelmed by OU last year in playoff game.

I don't follow OU, but I saw them with my own eyes vs Texas last weekend. What I saw was horrific defensive technique, bad angles, arm tackling, out of position penalties, poor gap control, ect, ect, ect. The only worse defense was Texas. Both teams look young and weak.. OU was manhandled at the point of attack. These issues have nothing to do with being banged up, they are structural and will require thousands of hours in practice, and the weight room to begin to correct. Sure they can compete in the B12 because the other defenses are poor either by design or they lack the recruiting effort the offense gets.

Bama is a different beast. They are build to drive you into the ground until you are buried. If Saben find a scab he will pick at it til its a hemorrhage and you bleed to death. You better pray that scab is not in your front 7, because that team is build to crush weaker defenses.. I am no fan of Bama or Saben I am a fan of culture, recruiting, and execution.

Show me some film of Murray consistantly throwing the ball into extremely tight man coverage while running for his life and I will gladly take another look.

3-4 weeks will do nothing to change what I saw on the field Saturday from OU. It just does not happen that way.

BTW Bama smothers any type of running game OU attempts. To be a running team you have to practice run blocking.

bad angles
yeah, this is what stood out to me as well. if they think Texas has speed on offense where their bad angles allowed UT runners to hit the edges, they ain't seen nothing yet.

Oklahoma finished the regular season by giving up 46 to Texas Tech, 47 to Ok State, 40 to Kansas and 56 to WVU.

Ill bet I could look at each of those games and see, horrible technique on defense, arm tackles, missed tackles, bad angles, poor gap control, weak at point of attack.. The same things as OU displayed at UT. Last weekend. Those are structural problems, that don't get fixed in weeks, it's going to take 3-4 thousand hours. Bama is not going to make those structural problems any better, they are going exploit the crap out of that hot mess.

Didn't Oklahoma score 31 on Georgia last year? In the first half? Bad angles?

Georgia was a top notch SEC defense, no? And many think this year's OK team is better offensively.

Hey, I might wind up wagering on Bama, but I think people saying Oklahoma D is so bad do not recognize the style they play, and the league that they play in.

It is a style thing.

TT, OK St, Baylor, TCU, Texas, all KINDA famous for their passing attacks. Ever notice? Texas is famous for it's football and there are lots of NFL QBs that played high school football, then in the Big 12.

And no I did not go to a Big 12 school, and I certainly do not care about Oklahoma personally.

Bama has 15 5 star players and 50 4 stars, I think. Hard to beat.

We shall see.

No fair quoting stats from the period when the defense got better under the new coordinator! Big12 is a pass happy league as someone suggested which is why OK's offense will be stagnant too since they are facing a real defense for the first time this year not to mention their top receiver may be out. In about ten days we will be looking at -14 as a big Alabama gift...and that is WITH the back-up QB.

OU played ALA in 2014 Sugar Bowl... Line was Ala -17.5... OU won 45-31

Thanks, I get it, all valid points, for those looking to manipulate and exploit human perception. If OU were to beat Bama in this game, I will have to suspend everything I know about this game from a life time of experience. Maybe that skews my perception of this game. Why Bama lost 4 years ago or UGA got scored on last year are virtually irrelevant points. Except that win by OU sets a perception that can be manipulated to the benefit of those who have billions invested in this game and expect an ROI. OU is in this game because they beat Bama 4 years ago and scored on UGA last year. The open at -14 now starts to make more sense.

Yes, is it possible this new style of offense renders old school defenses obsolete. Can a team score so many points that no matter how good a defense is they can never keep up? Great questions, we are going to get some kind of answer to in the coming weeks. What I am betting is that Bama can take control of the game at the LOS on both sides of the ball, (what they are built to do) giving Bama a lot of outs in this game. I just don't think OU can stop Bama's power running game. If OU's defense is built to stop teams from throwing the ball, they are not going to grow into run stopping beasts in 3 weeks. From the scores teams are putting on OU I'm not sure they can stop anyone throwing the ball in the 1st place.

I am really looking forward to this game I think it's the best matchup left for Bama. Watching UGA/Bama again or OSU/Bama would be boring. OU brings a thrill and the unknown. Just like in the stock market the space between perception and reality offers opportunity. +14 OU offers opportunity for both sides, what will the reality be?

OU wins we are in a new Era in college football, if Bama grinds OU into the turf, it's the same ol game it's been for 100 years.

Yes football is changing. Remember when wishbone teams and other top power running teams created the illusion of stronger defenses... eat the clock, D is not on the field, is rested, etc.

Look at the NFL... top 3 teams with 10-11 wins, Rams, KC, and Saints. #2 offense, #3 offense, # 6 offense (yards per game, not adjusted for SOS). OFFENSE WINS these days.

Defense? Balt, Jax, Buffalo are #1-2-3... not getting the wins, are they? Well Balty is doing OK.

Again, I might go with Bama, especially if I am convinced Tua is healthy, though I was told he was Saturday and had em -13... and he sure didn't make it, IMO he was dinged going into the game.

But the thing is it is a match up issue, style vs style, (slugger vs boxer) so the question is can Bama stay with them? Can Sooners stop them enough to win?

It has been pointed out that Oklahoma has scored on some top squads in recent years in bowl games... do not approach them as a second tier outfit. I think they could take Clemson and ND, straight up. Close games, anyway. Bama is a different animal, we all know that...

GL!

(I wonder how TF the Big 12 got into this obvious style, again OU, TT, Ok St, Baylor, TCU, all known for high octane passing games, been to plenty of bowls recently. Strange. Texas and Ia St both doing a lot of passing too. K State mostly stays with the old school approach. Kansas is a wreck.)

A large part of OU's offense is dependent on running the ball. Surprisingly they average 254 yards per game on the ground on 37 attempts. They Average more yards per game throwing the ball but have fewer attempts. As has been discussed OU is in a pass happy league, with defenses built to try to slow passing games down. Obviously non of those defenses have evolved to being very effective in stopping teams from throwing the ball. Scores like 58-56 are quite common. I don't know a lot about OU's offense but clearly their running game is very important to their offense. My guess is it directly impacts their ability to throw the ball effectively.

Bama plays in a league built to run the ball and stop teams from running the ball. Saben is old school we all know that, stop the run!!!! Bama averages holding teams on average to 117 yards per game on 34 attempts. Tackling someone is 90% desire and 10% technique. I can tell you from a lot of experience when a 220lb RB is coming at you full speed behind a 230lb FB or 300lb guard, it is going to hurt. Yes, sticking your arm out and closing your eyes comes naturally. Keeping your head up, staying under control, and aiming the center of your body at the target, making contact then wrapping up is not natural, it's downright painful, every time. It takes thousands of hours practice and a dedication to the weight room over years.

I saw a lot of chicken wings flapping around in the OU/Texas game. Guys whiffing a tackles, because of poor coaching or a serious lack of practice. I can tell you for a fact Bama is running half line and middle drill constantly, Bear Bryant invented it. My guess is OU is running pass skeleton 80% of their practice where there is no hitting and zero bringing a ball carrier to the ground.

The best I could tell from watching the OU/Texas game was UT tried to disrupt OU's running game in a effort to disrupt the passing game. It did seem to work, however UT did not have the horses to get the job done. I think Bama will try the same thing, the difference is they have a future NFL front 7 that has spent thousands of hours practicing tackling, gap control and stopping the run. UT not so much.

I think OU gets stuffed and does not score more then 14. I have no idea how OU's defense stops Bama's power rushing game. As I see it Bama does not need to complete 5 passes in order to hang 50+ on OU.

Oklahoma may be a victim of their own conference and the style that they play, but they were 2nd only to Oklahoma State for worst scoring defense in the Big 12. They are last or 2nd to last in just about every defensive category. I mean all of them. Opponent first downs, 3rd down conversions, 4th down conversions, total defense, passing defense, kickoff return coverage, red zone defense...they are 5th in rush defense but that is certainly a conference thing and due to the fact that OK scores almost every time they get the ball. There are bad defenses and then there’s Oklahoma. I’ll be looking at 1q and 1h plays...and have -14 Alabama -105 at 5d right now.

Assuming Tua plays, the Safeway bet is anything involving over Alabama team totals

Wow.
Guy says Oklahoma will not score more than 14.
Unless there are injuries that is insane.
Yes they run the ball, too, make it a wide open track meet, spread the field.
Has Bama played against an offense like this? What team?
A QB like Murray? Who?
An OL like this? What team?
On natural turf Bama will have trouble getting to the QB, especially the 2nd half when they are a bit winded. OU's top WR might be out, that will hurt if so.
Still:
LOCK OF THE CENTURY: Oklahoma TT over 14 (hell, over 32.5 which is the current real 5D team total, is a decent wager)

Alabama plays a better team then OU everyday, and has been playing that team on both sides of the ball for 4 years now. Bama will get OU for 4 hours in 3 weeks, They have been competing against themselves for +10,000 hrs over the last 4 years. No one can dispute Bama is loaded with 5 star talent and perhaps the best coach ever in college football.

I'm afraid OU is going to get stomped, the question will be can OU keep up with Bama's scoring. Bama 50+ OU maybe 14-17. Several FG's and maybe 1 TD for OU in this one, I'm afraid. A team like UGA or Clemson have a chance to keep Bama inside a number because they have a defense. OU not so much.
