“I really can’t stay,” intones one half of the ‘Baby, It’s Cold Outside’ duet — and it seems one Cleveland radio station agrees with the sentiment.

WDOK Christmas 102.1 in Cleveland, Ohio pulled the song from its 24-hour Christmas rotation this week, citing listener complaints, according to local Fox 8 news.
The song, first penned by Frank Loesser (Guys and Dolls) in 1944 as a duet for him to sing with his wife at parties. Loesser later sold the song to MGM for use in 1949’s Neptune’s Daughter, in which the song plays seriously between Esther Williams and Ricardo Montalban, and gender-swapped for humor between Betty Garrett and Red Skelton. In the years since, the duet has become an enduring holiday classic, sung by everyone from Dolly Parton and Rod Stewart to Michael Bublé and Idina Menzel to Chris Colfer and Darren Criss on an episode of Glee.

Over the last several years, many have called the song “date-rapey” in reference to the lyrics “Say, what’s in this drink?” The song details a back-and-forth, traditionally between a man and a woman, where the man tries to convince a woman to stay the night despite her continued protests, saying, “The answer is no.”

It seems the station received a call complaining the song is inappropriate in 2018, and after a listener poll on the WDOK website supported this sentiment, they decided to ban the song from their Christmas radio play. “People might say, ‘oh, enough with that #MeToo,’ but if you really put that aside and listen to the lyrics, it’s not something I would want my daughter to be in that kind of a situation,” midday host Desiray told Cleveland’s Fox 8. “The tune might be catchy, but let’s maybe not promote that sort of an idea.”

In a blog post on the station’s website, radio host Glenn Anderson further explained the decision, writing, “I gotta be honest, I didn’t understand why the lyrics were so bad…Until I read them.” He concluded, “Now, I do realize that when the song was written in 1944, it was a different time, but now while reading it, it seems very manipulative and wrong. The world we live in is extra sensitive now, and people get easily offended, but in a world where #MeToo has finally given women the voice they deserve, the song has no place. “

The song continues to be divisive in today’s cultural climate, and for WKOD, it seems the easiest thing is simply to say that when it comes to ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside,’ the answer is no.

HuffPost, a liberal news site, was lampooned after saying Christmas classic “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” was “seriously problematic” over claims that it features sexism and bullying.
“Viewers are noticing the tale may not be so jolly after all,” the outlet’s video said. “And they’re sharing their observations online.”

Among those observations was the suggestion that the TV classic was a story about racism and homophobia, while calling Santa Claus abusive and bigoted.
“Yearly reminder that #Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is a parable on racism & homophobia w/Santa as a bigoted exploitative prick,” read one comment shared by HuffPost. “Santa’s operation is an HR nightmare and in serious need of diversity and inclusion training. #Rudolph,” read another.

The video also suggests it was problematic that Rudolph's father verbally abused him by forcing him to wear a fake nose to be accepted by others.
Some eagle-eyed social media critics also said the cartoon is sexist because Rudolph’s mom was snubbed after she wanted to help reindeer husband Donner to search for their son after he goes missing. “No, this is man’s work,” Donner says.
But HuffPost's effort to highlight the perceived bigotry of the beloved movie attracted tens of thousands of negative comments, most of them mocking the video.
“Oh look! Something people like and enjoy; let's go ruin it!” tweeted Rebeccah Heinrichs.“If you try hard enough you can find offence in almost anything,” Chloe Westley seconded.
Others pointed out that HuffPost misunderstood the cartoon as the troubling characters learn their lesson in the end. “But... but... the bigoted characters learn they were wrong. It teaches a lesson. It doesn't endorse the problematic stuff,” tweeted Robby Soave.
Even President Trump’s son Donald Trump Jr. weighed in on the topic, tweeting “Liberalism is a disease.”

“Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” isn’t the first classic cartoon that was decried as problematic today.
'CHARLIE BROWN THANKSGIVING' CRITICIZED AS RACIST
Critics attacked ABC’s “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving,” which first aired in 1973, for seating its only black character, Franklin, alone on one side of the holiday table while all other white friends were seated on the other side.
The special attracted particular criticism this Thanksgiving, with many users lashing out on social media and calling the cartoon racist.

This week, we have learned about the thinly veiled bigotry in "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer." We've also learned about the racism of Charlie Brown and the classism of the Grinch. I am grateful that we are having these conversations, and I certainly cannot imagine a more pertinent subject to be discussing. I find it deeply frustrating that so many people expose their children to these holiday-themed fairy tales without even stopping to consider the problematic ideas and images they contain. It is no surprise that hate crimes skyrocket during the Christmas season, according to statistics that I saw in a dream last night.
<iframe frameborder="0" sandbox="allow-forms allow-pointer-lock allow-popups allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-top-navigation-by-user-activation" src="https://tpc.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-31/html/container.html" id="google_ads_iframe_/61914415/DW_Body1_0" title="3rd party ad content" name="" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" width="728" height="90" data-is-safeframe="true" data-google-container-id="2" data-load-complete="true" style="box-sizing: border-box; border-width: 0px; border-style: initial; vertical-align: bottom;"></iframe>
It does, however, shock me that no one has yet noticed the most racist, sexist, and transphobic Christmas cartoon of them all: "Frosty the Snowman." Frosty is so fraught with discriminatory messaging that it makes Rudolph look like an innocent children's tale by comparison. Indeed, Frosty is straightforward Nazi propaganda, as any clear inspection of the story reveals.
Let's begin:
Racism. Now,let's not be ridiculous. I would never call Frosty racist just because the snowman is white. There is nothing in principle wrong with featuring a white character in a story. White characters can even be entirely necessary if the plot involves, say, a serial killer or a rapist or a devious factory boss dumping poisonous chemicals into a river upstream from an orphanage. These are all roles that can and must be filled by whites. But what makes Frosty problematic is that he is not a serial killer but a "jolly happy soul" who likes to "laugh and play." The obvious insinuation here is that minorities are neither jolly, nor happy, nor inclined to laugh and play.

But the racism goes much deeper. Frosty, we are told, can only survive in cold and snowy environments. He is a creature made of snow (that is, made of whiteness) who "belongs" in the snow (that is, among other white people). "Frosty the Snowman," it turns out, is nothing more than a polemic against desegregation.
Sexism. Again, there is nothing on the surface wrong with the fact that Frosty is a snowman. There was a wonderful children's movie a couple of years ago about a murderous sociopath called "The Snowman Killer." In that context, it made perfect sense that the character was a man. The film was quite wholesome because it drew the necessary connection between masculinity and violence. But Frosty sends the opposite message. It is grounded in an outmoded, masculocentric point of view where anything magical, anything wonderful, anything happy or joyful, must automatically be male.
Transphobia. Frosty's gender was assumed based solely on the fact that he wore a top hat. In a similar way, an infant's gender is assumed based solely on its genitalia, which is just as arbitrary and fundamentally meaningless as a top hat. "Frosty the Snowman" erases the LGBTQI community by refusing to honestly grapple with the protagonist's gender identity. This is a massive missed opportunity when you consider the fact that Frosty has no sex organs at all. He is, in fact, androgynous and sexless. A more worthwhile and honest Christmas cartoon would explore this fact. But "Frosty the Snowman" bypasses the whole issue, choosing instead to reinforce an archaic binary paradigm.

There are plenty of other reasons to be offended. Frosty is a climate change denier. Frosty's top hat symbolizes the power of the moneyed class. His eyes, made out of coal, signify a rejection of renewable energy resources. We could go on for days. But I think we've got enough here to work with.

"He is a creature made of snow (that is, made of whiteness) who "belongs" in the snow (that is, among other white people)."

so then snow is a brutally racist weather event since it comes only in white? I'm just trying to get my libby-learn on today.... these are very unfamiliar concepts to my normal upbringing where everything wasn't based on race and gender identity.
