Going to the dentist is usually not an experience we look forward to, but it is something we all need to do if we want a healthy smile and overall good health. It is recommended for a person to visit a dentist at least twice a year to prevent any severe problems, however, many times, not only do we not look forward to it but we avoid it because of the high costs it represents, especially when it comes to complex treatments which are usually not covered by insurance plans.
Treatments such as dental implants, crowns or full mouth reconstructions are extremely expensive in countries like the United States and Canada, which is why, dental tourism has gained popularity as an alternative to receiving the treatment you need with high levels of quality for a fraction of the what it would cost in North America.
In Latin America, countries like Mexico, Colombia and Costa Rica have become the most common destinations for dental tourism, however, because of the growing insecurity and violence in Mexico and Colombia, Costa Rica certainly presents a much more attractive offer.
Traveling to Costa Rica to get dental work done can save patients anywhere from 40% to 75% off US prices, money that can be invested on a fun vacation in this beautiful country.

Costa Rica is recognized as having some of the best healthcare in Latin America, college education is of very high level and the professionals take it upon themselves to constantly stay up to date, many of them have studied abroad throughout North America to specialize in different fields.
Another advantage is that clinics such as the Flikier Dental Institute have made important investments in their facilities and equipment to offer a high-class service, with the latest technology and highest quality materials, offering a great experience to the patients while still remaining affordable.
“Patients come to Costa Rica because clinics like the Flikier Dental Institute offer them the same level of quality as any high-level clinic in the United States or Canada, while they also have significant savings specially when it comes to complex treatments. We pride ourselves in offering top level services with state-of-the-art technology to guarantee a patient’s comfort and satisfaction”, commented Dr. Simon Flikier.

I've gone to CR many times mostly for dental work, with some sightseeing thrown in.
Yes the pricing is good and overall the practice I used was very professional.
however, most of the work they specialize in (and help you save money on) is very aggressive, complex, time consuming work, Implants, bone graphs, skin graphs, etc.
This is not the place people come to have a cavity filled or their teeth cleaned.
Depending on your ability to STAY in Costa Rica the procedures can span 2-3 weeks or more, most time treatments are done months apart to allow for healing, etc. Requiring you to fly home and come back at a later time.
Travel expenses add up eating into the savings of your dental work.
CR dentist DO make mistakes, like anyone else, they're human. During one of my procedures my gum was burned accidentally with a laser and it required 2 additional visits for skin graphs (the 1st one didn't take) not only was I in a lot of pain, I had to use all my allotted vacation time to go back to CR to have them finish my work.
Overall I loved CR but my dental vacations are over (at least until I'm retired) If your in the US, its better in the long run to work with your local dentist you can visit if the work doesn't feel right or hurts after you've left the office.
Going to CR to have them re-inspect your mouth is costly and highly inefficient

How did you select the Dentist?

I as referred to them by a friend who had work done there.

I liked them bc the owner is an expat trained and licensed in the US, however, of course he didn't actually do any of the work, he just ran the practice
