Before you make a decision on taking App St in a bowl

According to a report from Winston-Salem Journal, new Louisville head coach Satterfield will begin forming his Cardinals coaching staff with a few members of his former Appalachian State coaching staff. Appalachian State defensive coordinator Bryan Brown and offensive coordinator Frank Ponce will reportedly head to Louisville to fill roles that have not been clarified, although it would stand to reason they will carry the same roles under Satterfield with the Cardinals if and when they officially join the program.

Great info, much appreciated!

Has it been determined if the head coach and/or the assistants are coaching App State in the bowl?

HC will not, Mark Ivey, Asst HC has been named interim HC. No announcements I know of on fellow staff members...

IF the OC does not go to the bowl game, that is HUGE.
BONUS would be IF he does not coach, find out WHO is calling the offensive plays.
DC too, but not as critical as OC IMO.
Game is only 9 days away...

They are gone with Satterfield but I wouldn't change my bet. This is an excellent team and the remaining coaches can handle the bowl game. I would be more concerned about their sophomore qb, Zac Thomas. He is talking transfer next year and not sure how motivated he will be for this game.

App wins this game easily. Coach Satterfield did what he had to do but his former players will be ready next Saturday.

At this point, without the head coach I like Middle Tennessee State, small wager, +7.
IF the OC does not coach the game and call the plays and someone new does, I like Middle Tennessee State, BIG. That really messes up a team in a bowl situation especially without the head coach. Also consider if the DC is not there... also important.
Sun Champ App St vs CUSA runner up Middle Tenn St (lost by 2 points), close game IMO even without the coaching desertions.

OC and DC are on the way to Louisville with Satterfield and from my understanding they won't be on the sideline. You may be right but keep in mind App had Penn State beat earlier this year but lost in OT. The other loss came to Georgia Southern when their starting qb went down in the first series and was done for the day. UAB won the CUSA conference but chose to skip the NO Bowl. Line hasn't budged and this news has been out for several days.

Good luck with your wager, anything could happen but I will be on App State but wait to see if the line drops.

From SI...

Appalachian State: The Sun Belt champions were dealt a blow when Louisville announced it would hire Scott Satterfield as its next head coach. Under his guidance, the Mountaineers made the FCS-to-FBS transition and started winning almost immediately. Over the past four seasons, Appalachian State has 40 wins and is 3–0 in bowl games. It’s a terrific hire for Louisville and a painful loss for Appalachian State.

Mark Ivey will coach the Mountaineers in the New Orleans Bowl, where they’ll face off against Conference USA runner-up Middle Tennessee. Ivey has been with the program for seven years, serving mostly as defensive line coach before a promotion this season to assistant head coach. He has little chance of staying as head coach, as athletic director Doug Gillin has indicated he’ll conduct a national search for Satterfield’s replacement. That’s not to say Appalachian State won’t play hard for Ivey—it certainly will—but a team in between coaches runs the risk of looking directionless.

So the HC wont be there and their OC and DC wont be there either?

Who is running practice this week (other than Ivey)?

Seems like App State may be a tad unprepared for this game. Both teams played on Dec 1 so neither will be rusty. However, I cant see an App State gameplan for this game. Give me MTSU plus the points on this game.

However a game with a sun belt team vs a CUSA team on a saturday nite isnt going to have me make a big play on the game. If you're in a bowl pool, take MTSU. If you want to bet just to but, take MTSU. I wouldnt break the bank on this game

This happened to Georgia a few years back when Mark Richt left. Bryan McClendon (now at South Carolina) took over as HC with two new coordinators. They actually ended up winning covering, although McClendon had a month to get things organized.

happens all the time with OC or DC coaches bowl game because HC moved on or got fired....about 50% of the time the team underperforms and gets whacked, 50% of the time they play for the assistant coach. I remember this entire forum betting against Pitt with Phil Bennett in charge for 1 game and they tossed a beatdown on Kentucky (in Birmingham, if i remember correctly)

tough to know what 19 years olds are thinking

Game is in 8 days, IMO if the OC & DC are not on the sidelines, then I like MTS +7, big.

Waiting to hear but seems like they will not be there for practice nor the game (scumbags), NCAA needs to ban ALL coaching offers to all D-1 football teams until after National Championship Game. Not just bowl teams otherwise the other teams have an advantage in the marketplace.

It is a short time to plan for a game and without all 3 it will be problematic. Also I seem to remember that yes a HC leaves but the OC & DC usually do not also leave... sometimes, yes. Last year Missouri and SMU lost their OC and got hammered in bowls. Nobody left to call the plays.

We shall see.

No way NCAA bans coaching offers and it has a MAJOR impact on recruiting.

I know that, they could never implement a logical policy like that.
They are weak.
The NCAA is dysfunctional, things are getting worse and worse.

Too much talent on this team. Started out slow but they showed up after the first quarter
