The constant eruptions of the Turrialba Volcano in Costa Rica that have been registered since yesterday and throughout the day today have caused ash fall to different parts of the Great Metropolitan Area.
The activity this Sunday, December 9, began since the early morning hours (1:15 a.m.) and again (6:52 a.m.) with a column of ash that reached over 800 meters above the crater, 4.140 meters above sea level (13579.2 ft) the eruptions have continued throughout the day.
Coronado, Goicoechea, Moravia and several cities in Heredia have registered ash fall and strong smell of sulfur.

The tiny particles of ash even in small amounts can cause health problems specially for those who are sensitive or have previous allergies or respiratory problems.
Among the symptoms that ash can cause are: itchiness and irritation around the eyes, lips and face as well as dryness of the throat and nostrils.
In the event that the ash fall continues or increases health authorities recommend the use of artificial tears, wet towels, long sleeve shirts, and in extreme cases a surgical mask. Pay special attention to children and senior adults.
When it comes to pets that are outdoors make sure to put fresh water for them several times a day.
