I was impressed how the Bears shut down the Rams last night. Held Gurley to 28 yards and picked Goff 4 times. Very impressive. But that's the thing about the NFL that is baffling....you shut down the Rams but the Giants score 30 on you.

Bears are good.

But Rams were in total letdown mode, 11-1, just clinched the Division the week before, 2nd game on the road, and the 20 degree weather fits the Bears defense and run style, not the Rams wide open passing style. Goff is excellent, but is a California boy and I think he hasn't played against a top defense in 20 degree weather. Rams didn't need the game, for the Bears it was the game of the decade. They are good, but...

IF they played next week, in LA, and it was a playoff game, I would take Rams, -8 (or whatever), BIG. LARGE. HUGE.

(it is that time of year, top teams coast sometimes: NE lost, Texans lost, KC barely squeezed it out, Chargers barely squeezed it out... and NO pulled it out of their ass 4th quarter...)

Thanks for the props! Much appreciated, Gaz.

Lost in the afterglow of the defense's performance is the fact that Trubisky was horrible. Three interceptions and yet the second-highest scoring team in the league is held to two field goals?

I am not sold on Trubisky and am skeptical about Nagy (remember how innovative Trestman appeared to be in his first season?), but the defense is for real. I don't know that they can carry this team to a Super Bowl a la the 2000 Ravens, and I don't think they could do this in LA or NO in a playoff game, but that defensive performance last night was amazing.

Huge statement game. I totally agree. I was on the Rams that game and had to make a mental note. That defense's game plan was the blue print to stopping the rams and now they are exposed to some degree unless they can adjust to good defenses. The Bears have a ton of potential. I think Trubisky is going to need a couple games coming off that shoulder injury and he will be alright. Watson for us coming off the torn ACL and the layoff was a similar situation (but way worse) - took him some games to get warmed back up. Trubisky is young, just needs some time and few games to warm back up. He was playing pretty good there earlier this year before the 3 picks.
