Gambler takes outrageous risk for small reward

ESPN gambling writer David Payne Purdum reports that one gambler bet $1,000 last week on Vasiliy Lomachenko in his title fight Saturday against Jose Pedraza.
Lomachenko was an overwhelming favorite in the fight, with the Flamingo in Las Vegas laying -7,000 odds to win, according to the report.
For those not familiar with sports wagering, that means a $7,000 bet will pay off a $100 win if successful. If not, the bettor loses all $7,000.
Lomachenko paid off

Fortunately for this bettor, Lomachenko won by unanimous decision. His reward for betting on a boxer nobody expected to lose?
$14.30.
In a sport where one punch can overcome even the longest of odds, the reward doesn’t come close to justifying the risk in this scenario. Making matters worse, still terrible but much better odds were available. Forbes reported Lomanchenko was available for -4,300 the day of the fight.
Our hero here should probably stick to the roulette wheel the next time the urge gamble strikes.

I see...so always bet the underdog in boxing and you will be guaranteed to make money. Stupid article in my opinion. He won and to say he should have played roulette...well...hahahaa

It could have been one of those things where the guy is losing...down to his last 1k and his like...fuck it...i need a lay up and to feel a win, no matter how stupid or how small. Or he could be like my dad and rationalize it as "hey i just paid for our Wendy's lunch" Who knows...

somebody actually wrote that stupid article? incredible

Right? Exactly what I was thinking...I mean its only 1k and a bet that won. The writer made it seem this guy had half an ape brain and one of the dumbest bettors in the history of sports betting.

Just not worth it, what's anyone going to do with $ 14?

I'd feel like a loser just placing the bet

Who knows is such a stupid reply. If that is your rationalization of this you should never make a bet again in your life.

My fault. I should definitely know what another person is thinking...you seem to have a very strong opinion on this fella or just feel like arguing. This subject though isn't worth the time. Get better. :103631605

Reminds me of a buddy of mine who risked 100 on a 2-1 favorite to show at the turf club one day when we were still in high school about 25 years ago.

That horse is still running.

Drink tickets and credits

Flamingo is part of Caesar's Total Rewards. They recently upped their Tier Credits for sports gambling at $10 to 1 TC (similar to VP). They're also running a December promo for locals of 5x TC multiplier if you hit 100 in a day. Essentially gambler did a low risk bet for 500 TC's

And won a couple $$
