GT leads the nation in rushing (335 YPG) so we know what their game plan will be. The question is can
Minn stop them. The Gophers give up an average of 171 yards while allowing Maryland, Nebraska and
Illinois to run for over 300 yards against them. I look for Tech to do the same today. GT only turned the
ball over twice in their last 7 games plus their punter averaged 44.3 (10th) net yards per punt.
GT has the better offense, better defense and better kicking game and if they are motivated to send retiring
coach Paul Johnson out a winner, they should win and cover this one.
GT 35-27
*Two key lineman for Minnesota will skip this game because of the NFL.
Georgia Tech does not have the better defense. Now, if you're anticipating that Minnesota's suspended players are on defense.....THAT might be understandable. The fact is that Minnesota had the better defense on the season (according to Massey) and have had a month to prepare for the Tech option offense.
I'll take Minnesota +7 (-120)
Tech 27-24
Varkey’s silly comment aside, yes, that time that one team on that one day stopped the offense is pretty much all the proof you need. UNC, UVA, Miami, USF, Louisville just this year have had problems with it and Kirby smart lost two years ago vs. that offense.Duke seemed to do pretty well stopping it. So unstoppable most offenses don't use it
The triple option offense is a great equalizer when playing opponents with better talent.
Five of the top 10 rushing offenses nationally belonged to teams that run the triple option.
1. Georgia Tech.....2. Army.....3. Air Force.....8. Georgia Southern.....10. Navy
You can't prepare for the option. Even if u have 1 month. It's literally unstoppable.
Which is why the triple option teams are playing for the national title every year?
DETROIT — The Gophers will be without a few more key defensive players against Georgia Tech in the Quick Lane Bowl on Wednesday afternoon at Ford Field.
Linebacker Kamal Martin and defensive tackles O.J. Smith and Jamaal Teague did not participate in pregame warmups. Smith and Teague were on the sideline, but there was no sign of Martin.
