No one in the SUV was even old enough to drive, as the teen boys inside tossed eggs at other cars traveling down a road in Aldine, Texas, deputies outside Houston say.
That SUV belongs to the father of the 14-year-old driver, police say, and it ran a red light when a 1970s Lincoln sedan gave chase after being hit with one of the eggs. A mother died in a head-on collision between her Ford F-150 and the SUV along Aldine Westfield Road, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said on Twitter.
Unbelievable,” Gonzalez tweeted. “Yet another fatal car crash. It’s only the first day of the year.”
The crash happened at about 2:20 p.m. New Year’s Day, according to KHOU. The teens told police the driver of the tan or gold Lincoln flashed a semiautomatic handgun at them after they had hit the Lincoln on the alleged egging spree near the intersection with Aldine Mail Route Road.

The driver of the SUV, whom police have not identified because of his age, is being charged with murder, Gonzalez tweeted Wednesday morning. The boy is being held at the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center.
The driver, who broke his ankle in the crash, and his two passengers were taken to LBJ Hospital in Houston, according to KPRC.
The driver of the Lincoln has also been identified, and police are looking to interview him, though they have not released his identity, either. An initial report from KTRK said that police were looking for a Hispanic man in his 20s with tattoos on his left arm.
Photos from the scene showed the victim’s mangled maroon truck taped off in a ditch along the road as crowds gathered after the wreck. That victim has been identified as Silvia Zavala, 45, Gonzalez tweeted.

The kids are responsible. Period. Manslaughter. Short sentence assuming good behavior.

Do you find the driver that chased them responsible at all either if chasing them recklessly and leaving the scene of an accident?

I think we need to know more.

No. He was trying to right a wrong. The kids caused the original problem by egging cars, and the secondary problem by hitting the lady. Add in the problem that the kid was an unliscensed 14. Those kids caused all that trouble. Period. As for leaving the scene of an accident, the guy wasn't in the accident.

Not that I don't agree with following someone after they commit a crime but it wasn't his job to right a wrong.

"The teens told police the driver of the tan or gold Lincoln flashed a semiautomatic handgun at them"

In many jurisdictions this is a crime in and of itself.

https://www.usacarry.com/brandishing-firearm/

So “brandishing” or “improper exhibition” or “defensive display” or “unlawful display” (or whatever your state and jurisdiction calls it) depends specifically on your state and jurisdiction. Very generally, however, for an operating definition “brandishing” means to display, show, wave, or exhibit the firearm in a manner which another person might find threatening. You can see how widely and differently this can be subjectively interpreted by different “reasonable” individuals and entities. The crime can actually be committed in some states by not even pointing a firearm at someone. In some states it’s a Misdemeanor crime and in others a Felony. So, focus, think rationally, know your state’s law, and be careful out there.

Here in Texas it's Deadly Conduct, Class A Misdemeanor.

They will probably present to the Grand Jury a felony charge of Failure to Stop and Render Aid for the driver who was chasing the teens.

The charge is Murder because he was committing a State Jail Felony of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.

Can they prove that someone flashed a gun?

ALL proven facts are against them. Seems like their attorney is trying desperately to give them an out and an excuse. They committed several crimes, and need to take responsibility, Lawyers and Judges are whats killing self responsibility in the US, when criminals get a slap on the wrist.

A Harris County grand jury indicted Christopher Lopez Monday for three felonies for his role in a deadly crash where he chased a 14-year-old driver who egged his car.

The teenager ran a red light and smashed into a pickup driven by Silvia Zavala, 45. She died at the scene in the New Year’s Day incident that ended near Aldine Mail Route and Aldine Westfield.

Lopez, 48, is charged with manslaughter, failure to stop and render aid and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon,

The 14-year-old driver had already been charged with murder in the case.
