For a change, a coach is leaving a P5 school (who's had success) for a G5 school.

Money has something to do with it as well

I think the alleged Cocaine and Hooker habit had something to do with it. (Check out TCU game, when DH couldn't be found for hours)

Read the boosters and BOT were about fed up with the non success on the field with Holgorsen.

They should have never gotten rid of Stewart for him......but Oliver Luck is an idiot.

So ,holgerson had 3 yrs remaining at 11.8mil....his buyout dropped to 4.8 mil next yr. Wvu offered a 1 yr extension at 4mil but holgerson wanted a fully guaranteed contract. If anyone saw the bowl game, you know we will suck next yr and holgerson knew that he would be fired next yr so it made complete sense when he would only receive 60% of his contract. Houston fully guaranteed his 20mil. So, it ended up a good move for both parties.

Do you have a link on this I could read? Administration was fed up with non football related stuff, so maybe this is it. He also hated to fund raise.

I thought Major Applewhite was a bad hire when Houston hired him and I think Holgorsen is questionable
especially what Houston is paying him. He has a 5 year, 20 million contract that makes him by far the
highest paid coach in the Group of 5. Second is Memphis coach Mike Norvell at $2.6 million. Houston
also upped the assistant salary pool to $4.5 million which leads the Group of 5 with Memphis second at
$2.635. They are paying big money maybe in hopes of joining a Power 5 conference. Holgorsen gets
a $1 million bonus if Houston joins the Power 5 during his five year contract.

Personally, I believe Houston could have found an equal or better coach for a hell of a lot less money.

Major Applewhite signed on as OC at Miami today.

I’m shocked that was his record as I always thought WVU was one of the top teams in the Big 12.

Who is rumored to be the next coach?

Fickell from cincy, or neal brown at troy...its sounding like brown. But, butch jones' agent has been calling last couple days.

Neal Brown has done a really nice job at Troy. If not WV, he will be given an opportunity
soon at a major football program. Don't know much about Fickell other than he has a strong
Ohio State background. He had a nice season with Cincy this year. Brown is an offensive
guy and Fickell's background is with defense. Guess it depends on what WV is looking for.

As far as Butch Jones goes, he did a really good job at whatever an analyst is allowed to do
for Alabama. Word is Saban was impressed by Jones work and wouldn't mind if he stuck
around another year with the Tide. Jones will be a head coach somewhere in the near future.

Brown will get a huge pay raise when he joins the Mountaineers. He made $810,000 during 2018
with Troy. Holgorsen made $3.6 during his last year with WV. I haven't seen any salary details but
got to think it will be in the $3 million range.

Good hire in my opinion but he has his work cut out for him next season with the loss of so many key
players, including the star quarterback. Brown was 4-8 his first season at Troy but went 31-8 the next
three seasons and a strong 20-4 conference mark. He also won three bowl games at Troy.

Brown is a great hire.

Applewhite and Holgorsen are both huge waste of money. Much better can be had for way cheaper.

Burning money and time, but Houston, you still will have a problem...

Applewhite was never head coach material. Holgerson previously coached at UH and has a house in Htown.
