I tuned in just when that happened... what actually happened? Did they rule a completed pass, then fumble..but when nobody picked it up, they changed it to an incomplete pass??! Wtf!!??

Yes :)

They ruled it incomplete, then decided it was a catch because Venus was aligned with Mars and Cinderella's stage coach turned into a pumpkin, but then the receiver was never down so that means it's a fumble, but since nobody yelled Marco Polo and nobody picked up the football except the ref, that means the pass is incomplete again

Something like that

Not a fan of him, but he isn't responsible for rule changes, the owners make the changes.

The 1st person to touch the live ball was an official so I think it should be Bears ball right there

I personally liked the rule the way it was. If you are going to the ground you gotta keep control all the way thru.

And also if the whistle blows, you stop play..... period

The ref got the call on the field right about the incompletion. The idiot in the booth was wrong and confused the broadcasters and viewers.

There isn't any issue on that one.

I think calling it incomplete is correct. I mean the db was tugging at it the whole time.

Call this a catch and you gonna have waaayyy too many catch and fumbles on your hands and who wants that?

For all the shit Willie has talked about the officiating this season, I think the Patriots season is going to come down to a bad call. I just cant figure out which way it will go

Its either going to be a call in the Patriots favor that makes Willie do a 180 on his stance, or a call against them that sends him over the deep end

It was a good call. Clearly an incomplete pass

They called it incomplete. Upon review they called it a COMPLETED PASS. But the receiver was not down by contact and thus he fumbled. However, since nobody picked up the fumbled football, the call reverts back to being incomplete.

1) it was ruled a completion and a fumble, not an incompletion

2) nothing about any of that bullshit was a "good call"

Yea, everyone in this thread saying it was incomplete and they got it right on the field is a moron. If you watched the game, they clearly stated that because it was not recovered by anyone, they couldn't give them the ball at the spot of the catch.

On the field, they ruled incomplete because they thought he didn't catch it, not because no one recovered.

I agree that it doesn't feel like a catch to me, but thats the new rule

Pretty much. If Philly jumps on the recovery it 100% gets overturned to catch/fumble and Philly ball. Which means it was a...wait for it...catch/fumble.
From that point you have to treat it like any other fumble with no clear recovery. Which is to give it to the fumbling team where they fumbled.
Not the reason they lost but bad call.

Exactly.... It should have been down at the spot where he fumbled.
