Because they have more talent overall and they played Mississippi State and shut them out while only scoring 24 points. Mississippi state is better than Boston College, who Clemson played as comparison. Miss state is far better than Boston College as they only allowed two teams to score over 20 points all season. Bama 24 and Kentucky 28.
Also - in the Bowl playoffs, the Tigers whipped Notre Dame who was not much better than Pitt which played both ND and Clemson. So did Syracuse which played a much closer game with Clemson than they did with ND. Therefore, imo I think we have a good Clemson team that is a little over rated, because of the record being 14-0 at this point.
I always say, Don't bet on a team because of their record. Especially in College, because its the main factor for "Ranking" teams which is very misleading.
If I was going to play with risk, Alabama is far less a risk to lose than Clemson is. The 5 point line won't be the involved in the outcome. Who ever wins SU will cover this game.
One more note, If Bama was a 5 point dog tonight, could you really bet on Clemson? That line is meant to draw money on the over rated loser. Its a lilttle low imo. Alabama is more like a 10-11 point favorite based on the teams they played this season.
