This is just absurd. Talk about failing up.

Kingsbury agreed to a four-year deal which includes a fifth-year option.

In December, Kingsbury was named offensive coordinator at the University of Southern California after being fired from his head-coaching role at Texas Tech.

Following the conclusion of the NFL regular season, the Cardinals and New York Jets had expressed interest in hiring Kingsbury for their head-coaching vacancies. However, the Trojans reportedly did not initially grant Kingsbury permission to interview with either club. He went on to eventually meet with both teams.

Lol. Never heard of the guy but with a name like that there will be tons of jokes.

Also, note that the Cardinals have a ((ownership)) group like the Redskins that does not give one small atom whether they win or lose. A few quality coaches have passed through the Cardinals' ((ownership)) and they were not able to overcome the ownership. Just as it will forever be with the Redskins.

Gets canned from being a shitty cfb coach and gets an NFL gig. Makes perfect sense.

This opinion is dated.

When old man Bidwill ran the team, it was 100% true. But when his son Michael took over about 12 or so years ago, everything changed. Michael wants to win. And the past 12 years are evidence of that.

Cardinals are taking a big risk here, no doubt. But like the Herm Edwards hire when everyone laughed, I'll wait to reserve judgement when I see the results. Herm took his team to a bowl game in year 1 (2nd in the South), when everyone had them picked to finish last in the Pac-12 South.

Will KK be successful? No clue. The Cardinals have tons of holes right now. What I do know, is they better bring someone in to completely take ownership of the defense. Someone proven at the NFL level.

Horrible argument.

Two completely different gigs.

One is very much dependent on how well you can recruit kids to the middle of nowhere in Texas. The other you just coach.

Some NFL coaches would be horrible in college and vice versa. Many examples of that.

KK might suck in the NFL too. Or maybe he's a brilliant coach who just had trouble recruiting at the college level. We will see.

Interesting comment. I think you may be right. Did old man Bidwill marry a goy? I went over some of the son's videos and he does not talk or act like his father.

He's completely different than his father for sure. Bill was a recluse and was famous for being a tight wad. Michael spends money and is very visible in the community.

This is not the same franchise it was when Bill ran the team. Completely different. And if you just look at the team record from when 2006 on, the Cardinals have been very respectable. They have 3x as many playoff appearances than their first 18 years in Arizona.

And on top of the Warner Super Bowl team (2 playoff appearances with that team), the team was very successful under Arians. Over a 5 year period they averaged 10 wins per year. Only a few other teams were that successful over that 5 year period.

I agree some with what you say, but I would think a coach that has no success in cfb can catch lightning in a bottle in the NFL.

Just my suspicion but I think he sucks ass in the NFL. Hell if your gonna hire someone like Kingsbury, might as well go after who taught him everything Mike Leech.

Fact of the matter.....him and the GM are BFFs.....how he got the job. Cardinals dont give a damn if they win or lose.

Can't say I blame the guy for reneging on the usc offer. Going from a college oc job to NFL hc is a big step up. Peter King's takes are tired.

Feels like the cardinals want another "Sean McVeigh" type and he coached Pat Maholmes in college.

I thought this was a crazy reach but not a horrible move.

Cards are hoping KK could turn Rosen into an elite qb.

Personally, i dont think this works as KK seems to be a better college coach and I am not a Rosen fan at all

Mike Leach is a great recruiter. He gets kids that fit his system. No doubt.

When you can do it in Lubbock and Pullman, you are good.

Yeah, it is kind of crazy that Leach doesn't get more big time opportunities. He must be doing something to scare people away.

I was having a drink of coffee when I read this and almost choked laughing.

Frecking Charlie Weis...now that's funny.

Question: Can you win in the NFL with the league's worst defense. The King's
defenses were some of the worst in college football. God awful hire in my
humble opinion.

Hire KK as the QB coach or maybe OC, but a terrible reach for HC especially coming off the bad decision on the hire last year. The Cards do care about winning, but the $$ got in the way as you can find defensive stars (Cambell, Honey Badger, Tony Jefferson, etc) on the rosters of other teams. The GM is on the hook for decision making and let's see what they do with the #1 pick.
Let's also hold on the determination that ASU hiring Edwards was a great decision. Coming out of the weak Pac12, you have to be absolutely horrible to not get in a bowl. One of those horrible teams hired KK as the OC which is exactly the type of job he should have landed instead of a NFL head coach. Teams are all trying to dupllicate the McVeigh hiring (he hasn't ever won a playoff game) rather than following a path to find the next Doug Peterson (such as Frank Reich). Too bad as, as a Cardinal fan, I think this is another bad move.
