Saban has to replace five of his assistant coaches, something he's probably use
to during his time with the Tide. With Alabama's offense loaded for 2019, four
offensive coaches must be replaced.

Mike Locksley, Offensive Coordinator (New HC at Maryland)
Josh Gattis, Wide Receivers (New OC at Michigan)
Dan Enos, Quarterbacks (New OC at Miami)
Brent Key, Offensive Line (OL at Georgia Tech)
Toshi Lupoi, Defensive Coor. (DL with Cleveland Browns)

Bama assistants either move on for promotions or get Saban's help finding a new
job elsewhere which is the case for Lupoi.

It will be interesting to see who he brings in...……………………..

I'm certain it is the ambition of every asst. coach to move-up on the latter that leads to a higher position on the football coaching world "totem pole" not the least of which would be a head coaching job. I always thought a slot on the Alabama staff would be the end of the line for many......I guess not. It would be interesting to know how much the money factor comes into play........Saban's help ?.......Could that be a polite way for him to usher out some the one's he no longer wants to have around, rather than fire, get him a new job. I'm sure that scenario exists at many other programs.

Footnote: Clover, keep those off-season posts coming, it keeps the fires warm while we wait for the 2019 opening kick-offs.

Mack, Toshi Lupoi is an example of Saban helping a coach find another job. Toshi is
a really good position coach and even better recruiter, but he wasn't up to handling
the defensive coordinator position. We found that out early on when Saban took the
play calling duties away from him. Really good coach but over his head as DC at Bama.

Saban's been busy hiring Sal Sunseri away from Florida and will coach the defensive line.
Also, Kyle Flood has been hired to coach the offensive line. He coached the same position
with the Atlanta Falcons the past two years. He was also the HC at Rutgers a few years
back.

Joining Sunseri is his son Vinnie who will be a grad. assistant. He played at Bama and was
in the NFL with a couple of teams. Papa Sunseri coached at Alabama from 2009-12 before
moving to Tennessee as DC. He will bring some nastiness to the defense.

More proof that bama’s machine mentality is losing ground to Clemson’s family mentality. Still a dominant program. And someone will soon challenge Clemson too. Ultimately this narrative that Bama never loses a game is creating a chink in their armor. Versus Utah and Oklahoma, they didn’t want to be there. Against the buckeyes, Bama players were concerned about the nfl (Nevermind Ohio st puts as many players into nfl—or close), against Clemson the first time, it was only bc deshaun was once in a lifetime, now that they got drilled by Clemson, it’s becaue of coaching turnover. At some point; other teams are better out played Bama. Excuses are not a way to get better. Saban act getting old. Ex coaches starting to make it known. Uga about to overtake mighty Bama as smart learns to win.

Poor Nick Saban and his coaching philosophy.
Poor assistant coaches who have to work under Saban.
Poor Alabama football future.

Saban is 146-21 during his 12 seasons in Tuscaloosa. Five NC (2009, 11, 12, 15, 17).
National finalist (2015, 16, 17, 18) POOR NICK SABAN, WASHED UP.

Coaches line up to learn under Saban as assistant coaches, analysts or consultants. Some
aren't even paid while others earn around $30,000. Many come to rehabilitate their careers,
others see a path to promotions or head coaching positions. Bama assistants under Saban
who coached at Alabama and are now head coaches. Not listed are coaches who have become
coordinators or joined the NFL. POOR ALABAMA ASSISTANT COACHES...…..

Kirby Smart, 2008-2015, HC Georgia
Jeremy Pruitt, 2010-12, 2016-17, HC Tennessee
Mario Chistobal, 2013-16, HC Oregon
Mike Locksley, 2016-18, HC Maryland
Lane Kiffin, 2014-16, HC Florida Atlantic
Billy Napier, 2013-16, HC La-Lafayette
Mel Tucker, 2015, HC Colorado
Jim McElwain, 2008-11, HC Central Michigan
Curt Cignetti, 2007-11, HC James Madison
Major Applewhite, 2007, fired by Saban, recently fired by Houston.

Alabama will be loaded in 2019 and has the No. 1 recruiting class in the country
coming in. With all the doom and gloom described in the above post, I can't imagine
Saban winning over 2 games this season. POOR ALABAMA FOOTBALL.

Biased Clowns!

With all this Saban Bashing, what puzzles me is the drought on the West Coast (i.e. the Pac-12). I remember the days when there was always a contender within the ranks for the NC especially with those Southern California teams (USC and UCLA), the closest the Pacific Coast has come with any team lately was Oregon with Mariotta running circles around everyone. Does anyone think teams like Alabama and now Clemson and their coaches might have had something to do with it.

The PAC needs to play an 8-game conference schedule so that they can play two patsies and two real teams instead of two patsies and one real team outside the conference. They're getting too insular and not learning from what's going on elsewhere.

The Pac 12 does need a boost after being down for a few years.

Looks like Oregon may be the class of the Pac this coming season.

Their QB skipping the NFL Draft was huge.

When the Oregon Ducks hired Mario Cristobal that was a bold move to insert a new "culture" into the their program, his background was bred and raised in Miami, played for the Hurricanes and assistant coached them in various capacities for several years plus the 5 years at FIU just up the road.....This should give him some access to the fertile recruiting grounds of South Florida.....Keep in mind, it is a long flight from Miami to Eugene....You are right Clover, that QB returning next year is huge....

Alabama has added five new assistant coaches to its staff in Charles Kelley (Tennessee),
Sal Sunseri (Florida), Kyle Flood (Atlanta Falcons), Charles Huff (Miss State) and Holman
Wiggins (Virginia Tech). Kelley is expected to coach the secondary, Sunseri linebackers,
Flood offensive line, Huff running backs and Wiggins wide receivers.

Rumors still being floated that Steve Sarkisian will return to Alabama as the offensive
coordinator. Sark was the Atlanta Falcons OC last year but once served as an analyst
for the Tide.

Saban is bringing back teachers of the game with experience rather than just young
coaches.

CL, was glad to see Sunseri move on from UF. He's a great coach, but I think the recruiting part has passed him by. He'll do well, again, at Alabama where he doesn't have to recruit as hard.

Saban raided a few SEC staffs and added some good coaches....as expected.

One thing I know about Saban is he'll be studying that Clemson film harder than anything he's worked on since losing to Florida in the 2008 SEC Championship game.

If I were a Bama fan I dont think Sark would be a good hire. He jumps around alot.
