What's different about the Saints and the Rams from the 1st time they played?

I think I read somewhere that the Saints have a player or 2 back that didn't play in the first game? Maybe someone can validate it?

Rams didnt have Talib. When he plays they give up 18pts per vs 30ppg when he doesnt play

He didnt play in the KC shootout game either.

For Offense Rams didnt have fat CJ Anderson bulldozing his way for 1st downs

Also Saints are out Sheldon Rankins. Their #1 Defensive Lineman

Saints also didnt have Tedd Ginn the first matchup

Anderson being back helps the run game for LA. But Talib isn't worth more than a fg, if that. No defensive back will make an 18 point difference in this game.

Anderson won't be a factor this week

Cooper Kupp played in the game but is on IR now.

Another thing I noticed is the Aints totally took Aaron Donald out of the game. 1 tackle. No assists. No sacks.

Yeah, true. Donald was a non factor.

Rams were in a letdown mode, on the road, Saints were playing before the home fans , played with more intensity since they were still figuring out if they were for real, they were still jelling, Rams were more confident and thus let down a lot mid & late season. Guys like Suh are not going to shoot their wad mid season once they figure they are playoff bound. In this situation defenses do not play all out- head first- sacrifice my body for the team... Rams made the playoffs the year before.
And the result is a bit misleading, it was closer, could have gone either way.
This happens a lot, years ago I would blind bet NFL teams that were even just 4-0, 5-0, especially if they had been in the playoffs the previous year since they, then, knew they still "have it". Teams that did NOT make the playoffs the previous year play harder for longer until they hit a lull at some point.
The Rams DL is the best talent in the NFL, and did not go all out all year. They apparently did go all out against Dallas, didn't they?

"letdown mode"

Nah. Shame on them if they were. This was THE biggest game of the year to that point. Rams were 8-0. Saints had won 6 straight after losing their opener.

Everyone should have been playing their balls off for superiority.

No, this was letdown time.
Rams on the road, happy as can be, Saints at home, slightly more motivated.
You are a good capper but you need to look at this again, these teams cannot go all out all year, especially when they feel comfortable that they have the playoffs wrapped up and know they only need to win a few games and can lose some.
AGAIN, everybody was saying KC, Rams, Saints, NE, were not playing well late in the year, then all 4 just dominated last week when they played all out, yes Saints did not cover, got down 14-0 but then dominated the rest of the game.
I guarantee you that a lot of these millionaire players, especially veterans, especially on defense, do not go all out every play in these spots mid and late season. Yes, sometimes they barely win by a FG, but then lose a game, then come back and play well.
My favorite example is Suh, making (I think) about $14M this year, probably has $ 60-75M in the bank, you think he is going to play all out mid season when the Rams only needed to win a few more? They do not think "bye" that early.
Then the announcers vs Dallas said something like "Suh is finally having a good game!"... like his timing was better or his fundamentals were back. IT IS BECAUSE GUYS LIKE THIS DO NOT RISK as much after the team is established, until the playoffs.

I think you mean they were "Cruising" the last 2 months of the season.

“Coasting”.
Anyone who thinks an 8-0 NFL team then plays with 100% intensity the final 8 games should go play tiddlywinks and not bet anymore.

Oh my bad. COASTING lol.

I dont know any 8-0 team that had anything clinched. Your right...lol. Cause winning a division, conference seeding or home field advantage means nothing in the NFL. NE will let you know how important home field is after Sunday

Your Baltimore team showed home field advantage very well, didn’t they! Oh.
If you think these players are thinking home field advantage that time of the season then forget tiddlywinks you aren’t ready for that, either.

I agree with this at the time the rams had the best record in the league. Kc had already lost to new england and saints lost week 1. The rams lost games that championship squads dont lose. They even had a chance to regain homefield again vs philly but los that game

if they happen to lose tomorrow it will be because they had homefield in the regular season but lost silly games ala philly in primetime

Both teams kind of faded. I think it makes this game interesting. Which team is most like when the were a bit more dominant. I think Saints better QB and defense and it is tough to win on the road in a championship game makes the Saints the play. We may find out one of these teams was a fraud or one of them steps up and proves their early success was the real team
