They really need to change this rule, at least for the playoffs.

First drive wins with a FG was awful, they marginally improved it to having a team score a first drive TD for the win. The common response is.."well, then stop them". Thats fine, but why does the loser of the coin flip have this responsibility yet the other team doesn't??

60 minutes and the game is even, you are supposed to start from scratch. But you don't. The winner of a random coin flip now has a better than 50% chance of winning. How is that fair??

If the first drive ends in a TD, then the other team has to have a chance to match it. If one team can't stop the other on the first drive, then the other defense has to have that same obligation. If they both score a TD, then its sudden death from there.

Kansas City had several chances to get off the field, I get that. But one team shouldn't have a > 50% chance of winning before you kick off.

Give both teams a shot with say 8 downs to the field. Winner is whoever is ahead after equal # of tries, repeat untill winner is determined

The only change needed is to give both teams the ball. If the first drive ends in a TD, the other team deserves a chance to match. From there its sudden death.

Or play an entire quarter. Something other than the current method.

That does NOTHING if you’ve scripted the game, need a team to win, biased, ect. They can change all rules they wish. If they don’t enforce them, if they throw phantom flags, advance plays or back drives from happening? What good is a fuckin rule? :):)

I wish the NFL would adopt NCAA rules -- maybe keep the 2 feet in for a catch rule -- but otherwise EVERYTHING about college football rules is better than the NFL. The way replays are handled, targeting penalty, even the commercials seem less.

It does nothing??

We are talking about not giving another team a competitive advantage when the game is supposed to start from square one in OT.

Would the league rather have certain teams advance?? No shit.

Heres you're rule change and how it can be affected:
Team A wins toss, gets ball first in OT. Drives down field scores.

Team B receives ball, starts from the 20. Pass to ____ Incomplete 2nd down. Pass for 8 yrds. 3rd and 2, Pass to _____ for 12 yrd. 1st down. Run for 1 yrd. 2nd down, Run for 4 yrds. 3rd down Incomplete pass. 4th down throws INT. OR Compeltes 20yrd pass. PENALTY! Holding Offense. Back up 10 yrds, repeat 4th down and 20. Throws INT. Game over. SO was the new rule any better?

Not really man. I see your point. But it doesn't make a difference. Not one bit. if NFL wants such n such to win? I don't give a fuck how many rules they instill? That team is winning...

bad idea...in college rules you don't even have to make a 1st down...your in field goal range to start

baskets has 5 minute OT's. Baseball has unlimited extra Innings for both teams. Only stupid NFL football rules has sudden death.

How about this. Each team gets the ball at mid field with an opportunity. Same rules as college. Just from the fifty yard line instead. No 8 point rule. The extra point is far enough now to cause pressure.

At least for the goddam playoffs, both teams should get the ball.

TDs, 2 point try, only.

Defenses are worn out in overtime, so if you win the coin toss that is too big of an advantage, you can score a TD and win with no opposition.

I think they will make a change on the current overtime approach, the public is up in arms over this and of course the Rams PI.

I think in OT they should have to run it all the way to FG range. No passes. No calls unless offsides or severely Blatant holding. Otherwise let em play... hard to fuck that up. With missed PI or PI or roughing the passer

Fuck the college OT rules. The last thing I want to see is a 7 OT game in the NFL like the LSU vs. A&M game. Then the League would really be able to manipulate desired outcomes.

Kansas City couldn't keep them out of the end zone. No reason to continue.

New Orleans won the toss and look what happened.

Lol really? If ya don't win the coin toss... how about play a little defense and get the ball for your offense. This is the NFL dumbo

The loser of the toss has a responsibility but the winnerr doesnt? That's brilliant. The winner has a responsibility to score... the loser of the toss has a responsibility to play some defense.

You sound like someone who wants a college football score of 78-75 lol. Each team gets the ball unless a TD is scored on the first possession

I think this post is almost as dumb as referee stats lmao

Rule is fine the way it is. It was fine before they changed it too. If both teams have a chance to match then 2nd team has advantage due to using 4 downs to pick up 1st down. How many ties did we have this yr. saints got ball 1st and lost. Kc just didn’t have it in the end. They lost to the better team (twice)
