ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — A sportsbook in New Jersey is offering betting credits for customers who bet on the New Orleans Saints due to the widespread belief that the team was victimized by a blown call by referees during its loss Sunday in the NFC championship game.

PointsBet initially said Monday it "will refund all wagers" on the spread and money-line bets on the Saints, who lost the game after officials failed to call a penalty on a Los Angeles Rams defender who leveled a New Orleans receiver long before the ball arrived.

But later in the afternoon, PointsBet said those "refunds" would come in the form of bonus bets, not cash payouts.

The Rams won the game and advanced to the Super Bowl, where they will play the New England Patriots.

Seems like the sports book has more integrity than the NFL......lmao@ NFL having any integrity, & now they want a cut of the pie for integrity? I believe that blatant non call in the Saints game solidified them of not getting any integrity tax/money.

Well that could be true of course...BUT the call also hurt chances of sports betting being made legal by states leaning to the "No" or with an "open" mind.

This is great marketing. They get widespread coverage and they are only giving up bonus bets. This also makes it that the losing bettors come back and bet more down the road.

Free marketing, free advertising and more opportunities to win more money. A win, win, win for them.

dumb thing to do

How so?

They likely didn't have a huge amount of hold on it and used it for free advertising. People in their footprint won't be disappointed, They get something when they should get nothing. Would need more details on how the bonus bets work but it beats nothing.

This is exactly how you go from pretty much unknown in the USA to getting mainstream. Not sure how big they are in their homeland of Australia, but must be big enough to get a license here in the states.

Great marketing to get some share of business with really no big risk.
