Costa Rican stand-up comedian, actor, writer, director and producer, Hernán Jiménez will have the premier of his first English-language film “Elsewhere” this April in Costa Rica.
With a cast including Ken Jeong (The Hangover 1,2) Parker Posey (Café Society, The House of Yes, Superman Returns), Beau Bridges (The Millers, Desperate Housewives, Code Black), Aden Young (Rectify), Jacki Weaver (Silver Linings Playbook) and Jackie Tohn (Netflix’ Glow) the movie is a comedy-drama that tells the story of Bruno (Young), who is hopelessly attached to the seaside cottage that he and his late wife built together. When his in-laws evict him, Bruno vows to get it back at any price.
The movie was filmed in Sooke, British Columbia as its main location.
Jiménez’ last film was “About Us” (Entonces Nosotros) was released in 2016, it was well received by the Costa Rican audience and was selected to be the country’s entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards, it also received four nominations at the Milan International Film Festival, in the categories of Best Editing, Best Production Design, Best Music/Song, Best Movie. Prior to this, the Costa Rican had two other films, The Return (El Regreso) in 2012 and Eyes Closed (A Ojos Cerrados) in 2010.
Born in San Jose, Costa Rica, Hernan Jimenez is a graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada, he also trained as a filmmaker at the San Francisco Art Institute and the Film Program at Columbia University’s School of the Arts in New York.
Hernán Jiménez is the most popular and successful stand up comedian in Costa Rica, his shows generally sell out weeks in advance. He is also the first Costa Rican to actually film in North America with renown actors and actresses.
“Elsewhere” will be in Costa Rican theatres April 18.
