As much as FSU wanted to make a PR stand hiring an AA coach, they made the worst hire possible. Many had doubts, but I have never seen a program crumble the way FSU has. Following recruiting......it is really, really bad in Tallahassee. Luckily they play in the ACC, so it might mask how bad the state of the program really is.

Sometimes you have to look past PR, and try to hire the best, most qualified coach for the job. Dark days ahead for Seminole country. I say at minimum 1 decade.

$5 million annual salary for a 52-57 record.

One scholarship quarterback heading into spring drills.
(did not sign a QB for second recruiting class)

Being sued by several Oregon players.

The FSU program is a frecken MESS right now.

Whats your opinion on "dark days" for FSU? A bunch of 7-5 and 8-4 seasons or a bunch of 5-7 and 4-8 seasons.

I only ask b/c i have a lot of friends who are FSU fans and they were miserable 10-15 yrs ago when they were going 8-4 and 7-5

I think 7-5 will become to be a great year for the FSU faithful for the foreseeable future. Probably 6-6, 5-7 norms, with a couple 4-8 seasons or worse.

Like clover said above.....they are a mess. Florida is about to an onslaught in that rivalry.

It's kind of sad from a traditional standpoint. I would never have thought I would see the day that FSU was 4th (at best) best team in the state.

Seems like they are still recruiting ok as I saw they've gotten a few 5 star and a bunch of 4 star players.

However it seems like since Mullen took over at Florida, that the gators are HAMMERING the noles when it comes to recruits.

Not sure of the Noles out of conference schedules (i know they play Boise this season) but the ACC isnt that strong. I can see them going 7-5 or 8-4 with Clemson as the ONLY "elite" team in that conference. That is why i asked about "dark days"

FSU's schedule is not difficult at all.

Boise State (Jacksonville)…..ULM.....@Virginia.....Louisville.....NC State.....@Clemson.....
@Wake Forest.....Syracuse.....Miami.....@Boston College.....Alabama State.....@Florida

Offense has to find a QB and offensive linemen. I don't know what QB James Blackman's
status is now after the starter was kicked off the team. Blackman had entered the transfer
portal. He's the only QB on scholarship.

Thats why i mentioned that they could be a 7 or 8 win team but according to FSU fans, thats a "crappy" season

I've been following FSU football since the Daryl Mudra era during the early 1970's (those were bad times, a .500 record would have been a good year, try 2-8 in 1975). Once Bobby Bowden arrived the football program hit the big time, much of his success was attributed to his ability to recruit well in the Florida panhandle. and LA (lower Alabama) and just enough in South Florida (Dade & Broward Counties)
and in the sugar cane country near Belle Glade etc...The Bowden years kept Florida State in the top ten and were always in the hunt for a National Championship. When FSU first joined the ACC under Bowden they were always perennial favorites to win the conference title............ those days are long gone.

Ole Daryl Mudra...those were the days where anyone could find free tickets
around town and they still couldn't draw 15,000 fans. I went to several games
coached by Mudra because of friends living in Tallahassee. The dude coached
from the press box.

Mack, they were pretty bad back in those days.

glad this fool is gone. Cristobol is exactly what we needed.. seems like he brought some of Bama out here with toughness etc..

Cristobol was a good coach during his time in Tuscaloosa and a really good recruiter.
Bama folks really liked the guy.

One has to believe he is applying a lot of what he learned under Saban at Oregon now.

The Ducks had a really nice recruiting class for 2019 and should be a tough out this
season.

My base case for next year is 4-8, bull case 6-6...he will set us back 3-4 years, provided we can him after this next season. Pretty easy to resurrect a program like FSU with the right coach.

Yep.
He is not even close to being adequate for a position at this level, but he and others are pushed upward, anyway; happens a lot, there are so many other examples in sports, this is one of the worst.

My number one, two and three choice would be Mike Leach.
He would win and win big at Florida State.

My next choice would be Hugh Freeze who is entering his first season
at Liberty. He would fit in just fine in Tallahassee.

Others: Lane Kiffin (FAU), Bill Clark (UAB), Dino Babers (Syracuse),
Mike Norvell (Memphis) to name a few.

This might be unaligned with the context of this thread but in today's politically correct (PC) environment. administrators often take into account a good "minority hire" ahead of football coaching skills (x"s & o's) and peripheral knowledge of the game which includes the ability to recruit along with a good dose of experience, it looks good on their resumes. This may not be the case with the Taggart hire but it is sad that this has far too often become the case in todays world. The color of a man's skin should have nothing to do with the hire........period.

I believe that Willie Taggart is a good man, and I would like to believe that the color of his skin had nothing to do with his being hired at FSU, but, sadly, one begins to wonder sometimes whether this is a part of the criteria used by some administrators when making the decision to hire or (not to hire) when everything else is considered, if not at FSU but elsewhere.

Willie Taggart has more than a few detractors/critics regarding his coaching skills, on and off the field, whether this feeling will continue remains to be seen but one thing is certain, the Seminole faithful won't stand still for many more 5-7 win-loss records.

Well, he is undefeated against Clemson.

It would be interesting to see what Clark could do at a bigger program.

It played a big part in Locksley getting the head coaching job at New Mexico. What a disaster that was! I'll be fading the Terps early this year for sure.

Mike Locksley may or may not be successful at Maryland but the man did one hell of a job recruiting
for Alabama in 2019. He landed the nation's No. 1 running back and No. 1 offensive tackle. He also
recruited three of the top four ranked players in Maryland to Bama. Once he arrived as head coach
of Maryland, he flipped Maryland's number one player (Nick Cross) from Florida State.
