People usually set up trusts and relocate so they can't be pestered but I'm starting to think this is a lost or misplaced ticket. That is awfully long time to wait to not claim it. Your losing interest on the money. $878 million lump sum. I'm actually surprised that this doesn't happen more often. When you think of the shear amount of tickets sold someone could very easily lose or discard ticket thinking it was a loser if you read the numbers wrong.

I think you have a year to claim. If not do they put it back into the pot after the time is up? But with such a huge sum there is no rush. Probably looking at every option assuming it isn't lost

That tactic would never stand a chance !

I'd say 98 percent chance ticket was never recognized as the winner and instead of rightfully going back into the pool, gets stolen by the govt at some level

I thought maybe they were fighting for legal anomnity but someone said you're already allowed to go anonymous in South Carolina

Buying lottery tickets is not ever something you can justify mathematically.even the 1.5 billion jackpot doesn't qualify as an overlay . It's really just short of a billion taking the cash option which is the only true way to evaluate it, then take out 40 percent or so for taxes.you're down to just 600 million real dollars then and have the very real probability of splitting it 2-3 ways when the jackpot gets huge.odds of winning it are around 300 million to one, and it's a $2 ticket. There are of course lesser prizes but no way call it an overlay, more thoughts later on the subject.

You are correct, but there are other benefits to buying a $2 lottery ticket. If you can get 5 minutes of stress relief or the simple joy of daydreaming about what you would do if you won, the mental health benefits are worth far more than the $2.

Yup......S Carolina has anonymity, you don't have to disclose jack.

I've been wondering if maybe they're just getting all their plans in order, attorneys, financial advisers, etc.......either that or they lost the ticket.

If no one was to claim a winning ticket within the given time does it go back into new drawing or is the government the automatic winner?

I wouldn't do coins that's more of an interest from earlier in my life and the knowledge never goes away, but I don't actually collect anymore.

s to lottery ,I won't even buy a Powerball/ Megamillions ticket. I only play the CT state classic lotto game when the jackpot is high, it's an 8 million to one shot but $1 not two and that's a lot better odds than 300 million to one. Pot starts at 1m, I only play when it is large and only for $4 bucks a week, two tickets each for Tuesday and Friday drawings , pot is 10m now cash, so like 6m after taxes, the perfect amount that would enable me to do everything I desire.

I know a guy that hit it for 4M +, he got free tickets as a retailer and just bought tickets with his commission money.
First thing I'd do is shocking.i would buy my X-wife the condo she wants, about 225k there then a new car, just a VW, Honda type for 25 k, then allow perhaps as much as 50 k for furniture and appliances for maybe now 300 k, then have my attorney set up some sort of annuity to automatically pay taxes and condo fees on it for the next 20 years plus an allowance of a few hundred dollars a week because she is too stupid to do such things, probably brings the tab to about 1M, she'd bep set until age 83 and out of my hair, if she lives past 83, too bad tough luck, I'll be long dead by then and you should have the common decency to croak by that age

I don't believe this game can be played by anyone that doesn't physically buy the tickets without being in the state.
