Kids under 17 are pretty big this year, with a $ 2,000 credit phased out at much higher incomes than the $ 1,000 credit was. Many people never got to utilize the $ 1,000 credit, but almost all get the $ 2,000 credit now.

The downfall for many thus far as been a significant decrease in taxes withheld, turning big refunds into small refunds and small refunds into liabilities

Yes this is the first year we qualify for the kids since trump increased from $100,000 to $400,000.

We both choose total allowances of "0" on our paychecks so we get the max taken out

Seems like people are getting a worse tax result than in years past.

People are also having less withholdings taken out of their paychecks so that is 1 of the reasons why.

Why do you think that is? Do you think the withholding tables weren't properly aligned? I've seen the same thing for a few people as well already this year.

The credit is definitely big for anyone with kids under 17 as long as the kids are citizens. Maybe people will complain less about aliens getting all these benefits with the credit for children with ITINs reduced to $500 as compared to $2,000

I said it was the smart thing to do? You will have to show me where I said that.

It's a matter of preference. Trolls out in force just desperate for something to argue about today.

It's like we're starting from scratch with respect to withholding tables. The IRS was told to withhold less, and they are, but they're withholding much less than the tax cuts people are receiving. 2018 is a transition year, a learning curve, and people will start adjusting their 2019 withholdings to achieve their goals, whatever they might be.

Seems like the good folks that live in NY, California, and other states that have been able to write off federal taxes to make up for the state taxes are belly aching. I always have to pay, so tax season is always sucks....hehe.

never loan the Government money

I agree with this 100%. I once would pay quarterly on my expected K1. Now I just take the estimated amount and put in a money market account. The money is there, but not in the government hands. I guess it's just a principle thing for me.
