I have never really been a fan of this show, probably haven't watched a total of 10 or 12 episodes in my life. This year may be different as I am from a small town and one of the contestants this year is from here and I have actually met this guy a couple of times. His name is Gavin Whitson and he dated my niece a couple of years ago and would be at some of our family gatherings at holidays. All I really know about him is he was well mannered and very respectful. So I will be watching this year as long as he's in it anyways and pulling for him to do well. The 1st episode is scheduled to air this Wednesday 2-20 not sure what time yet I'm guessing 8 or 9.

Will the books have odds on this? If so I may put a small amount on Gavin just to make it a little more interesting. Below is a article in our local paper about Gavin and Survivor.

There used to be odds on survivor back in the day. The problem is that about 15 years ago, something got leaked as it was known who the final 2 were. I havent seen odds since then.

I watched probably the first 20 seasons of the show then stopped for a while. 2 years ago, my son watched an episode with my parents and got hooked.

I have watched every episode of these past 3 or 4 seasons with my kids. The show is still pretty good.

Pretty cool that you know someone on there. Best of luck to him!!

Curious to know what you think of the show after to watch it

I have to assume you can bet on it somewhere. Bovada let's you bet on who will die first on Game of Thrones, you are telling me people don't know that?

Anyone that does put it up usually has a very limited limit like $100 Max for example

It's amazing it has been almost 20 years since it all got started with Richard Hatch. I caught the first few seasons, Colby and Tim Hasselback's wife both stand out from what I recall. Haven't seen much of it over the past 15 years or so minus one season where they had this chubby dude who lied about absolutely everything(he became kind of a fan favorite villain but I forget his name.)

It's an interesting dynamic and usually I've found it to be entertaining compared to a lot of other TV options. What a sweet gig that host Jeff has, dude makes 200k an episode and has a net worth north of $40 million, must be nice.

Curious to know if you watched this season, if you would still like it?

The show really "changed it up" with secret idols, 3 tribes, a few merges, 3 people make it to the end, and TONS of back stabbing.

Really interesting dynamic

Well Gavin has played well and is in the final 6 heading into tonight's 3 hour finally.............here is article about it in our local paper.

Erwin's Gavin Whitson still in the game for Survivor million

Will Erwin’s young Gavin Whitson be the next $1 million CBS “Survivor” winner?

We’ll all find out Wednesday.

So far, the 24-year old Unicoi County native has outplayed, outwitted and outlasted his way into a 1-in-6 chance at the big prize, and along with his bride Carly, won the hearts of “Survivor” fans everywhere.

In Los Angeles with his family for the season finale, live reunion broadcast and final tribal vote tally, Whitson told the Johnson City Press this week it’s the moment he has waited for his whole life.

Win or lose, the lifelong “Survivor” fan said his big takeaway from the game will be the all-new appreciation for the important things in life he gained during his 37 days as a castaway in the Mamanuca Islands of Fiji.

In an email response to questions screened and relayed through the show’s public communications specialist, Whitson said, “I never realized how lucky I was until I played ‘Survivor.’ I have so much to be thankful for outside of the game and playing ‘Survivor’ allowed me to realize what’s truly important in life, which is family.”

For now, he said, “I am very excited to still be in the game and to have made it to the final episode of the season.”

And for family, friends and fans who will be watching the finale back home in Erwin, he said, “Carly will be in attendance along with my mom and dad, Kim and Anthony Whitson, my brother Gabe Whitson and cousin Grayson Goddard.”

Those who have not kept up with the smash hit reality series’ 38th season will be pleased to learn Whitson’s quiet and steely game play has lived up to host Jeff Probst pre-season assessment of a young man he described as an “understated and underestimated threat to steal this game.”

So far Whitson has won two immunity challenges to protect him from the ever-dreaded vote off the island.

He’s played a pivotal role in well-calculated blindside votes that took out two of the game’s most strategic players. And on the show’s recent family visit episode, the one-of-a-kind backstory of how and he and Carly were wed just two days before he flew away to Fiji for the show’s filming helped wrangle he and his bride a picnic lunch and a day’s visit on the island.

And while he is not the oddsmakers’ favorite going into the finale, those oddsmakers obviously don’t live near Erwin, where Whitson has become a regular hometown celebrity.

Since the season’s February premier, he’s made brief appearances at Wednesday night watch parties hosted weekly at hosted by Union Street Taproom downtown or by the Unicoi County Chamber of Commerce in the auditorium at Unicoi County High School.

This Wednesday night the party will be at the taproom, with the three-hour “Survivor” finale playing on three big screens and surround sound and the Noli food truck parked outside serving dinner.

Taproom co-owner and Erwin Alderman Michael Baker said “We couldn’t be any prouder” of Whitson’s performance in the game.

And at the chamber, Executive Director Amanda Delp is equally excited and working on tentative plans for postseason community celebration with the Whitson family.

I've enjoyed this season, I was surprised to see a couple people leave the Edge of Extinction and they really didn't even talk about why they left unless I missed that part. It's definitely a different game than what it was at the start with all the secret advantages and people winning way more meals. Those first few seasons a few people were on the brink of starvation from what I remember. Go Gavin but I'm rooting for the newscaster guy as I think he's most deserving of the W.

Yea I told my bride that Devens is the smartest and has played the best game so far but that don't mean he will win, but I totally agree he has played the best game

thank you for bumping this thread. I remember that someone on here knew a contestant (for some reason i thought it was war dog).

Gavin has seemed like a gentlemen this whole game and i think he has a good chance to win. However if Devens makes it to the final 3, i think the jury picks him.

I watch with my kids every week so something tells me we wont see tonights episode until friday at the earliest. Gonna try to avoid spoilers

Yea I was glad when they voted wardog off, I couldn't stand that guy & he was atrocious in all of the challenge's. Kind of agree with you that if Devens makes final 3 that jury probably votes for him....he has played the best game so far I think.

Sounds like the show sucked you in pretty good. Its a good show. Especially when you DVR it and can fast forward commercials and all the crying family junk.

And yes, Devens totally deserves to win. After he came back, he stepped it up and earned every penny if he wins.
