Syracuse head basketball coach Jim Boeheim is cooperating with police after hitting a man with his car on Interstate 690 late Wednesday evening. The victim has died from his injuries.
Officials say the victim is a man in his 30's who was walking on the Interstate around 11:30 PM when he was struck by Boeheim's vehicle.
Cops believe the victim had been riding in another vehicle with other passengers -- and that vehicle had crashed before the Boeheim incident. At some point, the man got out of the car and began to walk.
Cops say the 74-year-old coach underwent a field sobriety test -- and officers determined he did not show signs of intoxication. Syracuse.com reports Boeheim had a .00 blood alcohol level.
The coach is cooperating with the investigation.
Boeheim coached the Syracuse basketball team earlier in the evening -- leading the Orangemen to a 69 - 49 victory over Louisville at the Carrier Dome.
We reached out to the Syracuse Athletic Dept. for comment -- but so far, they're not saying anything.
Story developing ...

Driving on the high of a big win. Took his hands off the wheel to do an air drum solo of Phil Collins in the air tonight.

What I heard anyway.

Will be back to business as usual.

If it was a pure accident or pure negligence, he'll be back at his coaching job no problem like nothing happened.

Long list of athletes/coaches driving over and killing people last couple decades.... and you're good to go the next day. One of the benefits of being a "star".

Sounds like an accident. Let's see how it plays out.

College game day was supposed to be at Syracuse tomorrow for the Cuse/Duke game. That was now cancelled.

Sad, I drive that stretch every day. NO lights at all and icy roads well it was bound to happen sooner or later. Only if coach stayed at Charlie's Restaurant a minute longer with his wife and friends. What really sucks is if it happened to any regular guy he would've got some kind of citation. But because it's Boeheim and I feel for him and the family of the guy he killed, he gets a slap on the wrist.

after I read about it thought it was lame on the fans part and on his to walk out just before game time to make an entrance

it was a accident in bad weather sure it is terrible for all involved

people in a accident make this mistake all the time of not getting away from the wreckage in bad weather and others can't stop or avoid the wreckage and get in a chain reaction event

I know 3 people who have been killed like this and 2 were just being a good samaritan and stopped to help out

and I know 1 guy who did the same thing Jim did unfortunately

I mean, I know a guy died but cancel an entire production they had been preparing for all week? It's not as if the guy was the Gameday cameraman.
