Off to a great start. Still probably just 50/50. Has to stay healthy and effective for another 8 years at least. Sometimes players just become average for no reason. Great example is Hanley Rodriguez. Started real young, was probably even a better hitter then Machado. Then just became not great, might even be out of the league now.

Gonna be interesting in 5-10 years from now when you bring this thread back up.

Curious if he will eventually become a 1b or an outfielder as he gets older (as the poster above brought up Hanley).

San Diego really isnt a hitters ball park so his stats could be flawed.

Guy is 26

175 HRs (31 avg)
1050 Hits (184 avg)

should be a lock IMO

His effort this year will tell. He locked a 300 million 10 year contract. Is he going to care to give it all now that he is set for life? He was already getting heat for not hustling and having bad attitude.

after a 4 year 88 million dollar deal-
Ramirez, 35, ended an ignominious four-year stretch in Boston with arguably the worst year of his career and sat out the remainder of the season following his June 1 release
Nomar had a good start as well..

Machado became the 18th player to hit a walk-off grand slam in extras for a team that was trailing. Nick Swisher notched the last such slam for Cleveland in 2014, and San Diego had never had a player do it before.

no, I don't see him having super longevity.

after this year, he will have had 4 seasons in the middle of his prime and he'll have had zero MVP votes in those years

what makes us think he'll all the sudden break out to be a real star?

NL will adopt DH so that'll keep him fresher if he is still a good hitter but fades defensively.
