Free Solo on National Geographic-Alex Honnold solo climb of El Capitan in Yosemite

Don't know how many people on here watched it Sunday night but this guy is the best athlete in the world. The endurance and strength to climb 3000 feet of sheer granite with ropes is simply astonishing. Most solo climbers end up dead. I have seen a lot of stories on Honnold but just to watch him do this climb is amazing. I've been to Yosemite and just looking at Half Dome and El Capitan is awe inspiring.

Was ki d of boring, very focused dude. Great strength and unbelievable concentration. I would not call him greatest athlete in the world. No way he can shoot a basket or hit a baseball, let alone throw a football. But, i must say his girlfriend, pretty hot for a weird dude, thats focused on climbing and lives out of van.

Yea climbing El cap with no ropes is very lame

What I liked about his girlfriend is he had to put in zero effort to land her. She approached him after a book signing or where he was giving a talk and she gave him her number. He also said if it came down to climbing a rock or his girlfriend walking out the rock came first. He isn't a favorite to make it to his 50th birthday. These two climbers died a year after Alex completed El Capitan.

I don't know much about rock climbing but why doesn't he or the two guys pictured above wear some type of parachute in case something goes wrong?

Some do on certain climbs but they may just do it to jump off

some they can’t cause the pack would be in the way as they get in a crevice

guess it’s what ever they are comfortable with

Was in Yosemite in May , did some awsome hiking there.. thought what I did up there was an accomplishment.. but nothing compared to this.. for anyone that doesn't know , that's Angels Landing in Zion in my avatar.. done that several times.
