Machado can opt out not the Padres

Machado will receive the standard perks, including a suite on the road and a limited no-trade provision that enables him to block a trade to six teams per year, a list that can be edited yearly,
He also has an opt-out clause after the 2023 season, which would permit him to jump back into the free agent pool a few months after turning 31. So he will either get $150 million over the final five years of his contract or find a suitor with more.

Any long term baseball contract is always horrible for the team.

1. Fully guaranteed
2. Players have no incentive now to even stay in shape
3. Get hurt. Why rush back?
4. Age. In high level sports. Age hits you over night especially in joints and
playonf everyday and flying 20k miles a month.
5. Usually players have no trade guarantees in there. They literally have zero incentive to try. There is no “ my
kids are all in school, I don’t want to move to Chicago” thing here.

Notice how they never work out but teams have to do it land the player.

all of these sports need to change. The one sport that should have guaranteed money doesn’t
