The electric bill is one difficult thing to figure out. It gets divided Into Basic divisions, supply ( also called generation ), and delivery, that part costs more than generation and in my case is 8 different subcharges, shit like Distr Cust Srvc chrg which amounts to perhaps 8 percent of the total bill, they could toss in a charge for muffler bearings in this section.

All I can do is say OK, they charged me $109.27 for the 479 kwh I used between 1/11 and 2/11, so 22.8 cents per kwh, in my case
US average is 12 cents per kwh and 908 used per month, CT has 3rd highest rates in nation.

The thing is there is no other option !

I have what is called TOU (time of usage).
I pay .23 for peak, .17 off peak, and .13 overnight.
rates are in the summertime .35. .19, and .14 respectively.
I think I also get a small monthly credit for being on the TOU
billing program. those are so cal rates. florida rates are
lower, but their TOU is not nearly as good with less
incentives.

Hawaii is highest, Idaho lowest, about a factor of four between those two.

Talk about a monopoly, you can't reasonably not have it, and must buy it from Eversource or whatever they call it where you live.

Look at those poor suckers in Puerto Rico, takes a year to get it back after a hurricane !

Even if they could quadruple the rates overnight.
. we'd still pay it ! Fortunately there are procedures and people overseeing rate increases !

Wow , I was ready to claim Bullshit on that, until I saw who posted it, a guy I respect , a great deal, indeed.

If that covers both ends, supply and delivery, that is awesome

Tex, I know you're a big boy and a big city cop, but I suspect that the rate you got is a scam for a temporary term, then they suddenly increase the bill by a factor of 10, 20 X or more, but you'd know all this !

No, that's just for the cost, throw in another $40 for delivery. Centerpoint is the big guy down here, but I always shop around. Of course since Centerpoint owns the lines, they get a cut of the money.

No, I shop every two years and I lock in that rate for the 24-month period. I typically change providers every two years. I always shop around for electricity, and car and homeowners insurance. I'm never afraid to change companies.

Well then your figure is misleading as it does not include everything, my figure of 23 cents or whatever it was, included all charges, taxes, and relayet crapola, total bill divided by kwh used, so it's a valid comparison to where others stand !

It would be interesting to see what it costs in other countries, and how reliable the service is, Canada always being the most similar country to US

I honestly expected to be totally roasted here by trolls for using so few kwh !

Know your enemy to high utility bills and how much you do about it, get efficient light bulbs, yada yada, well all done that crap by now, you won't take shit advice ( fine for an owner, nothing to a tenant).

I think I screwed that up , tough to post on such a tiny screen with failing eyesight.

Be aware of what every appliance uses. Many costs are hidden like that perhaps 30 gallons cauldron of hotish water, I will continue tommorow, running out of battery.

Doug

Who is your local utility? UI, Eversource?

Eversource, they cover most of the state, UI is pretty much limited to the New Haven area, I'm nearer to Old Saybrook, Eastern Middlesex county.

I guess I won this one, nobody even close to the
.23 ,I have to pay, I didn't even see a
.15 in there !
Interesting to see what you guys consume monthly, I thought I might be mighty low, but fixed costs like a water heater exist
I also run a ton of refrigation, way too much, actually !

A normal household size fridge, a good size chest freezer and a smaller fridge above the size you might find in motel room or a dorm room, kind of a half size thing that would be perfect to fit under a kitchen counter. My X-wife got it for me free brand new in the box, so I accepted it, she's great at getting stuff like that
