I have to say No, if you can't read the information on road signs , you're a hazard on the road
This isn't targeted against Ill eagle Mexicans but I guess there are provosions in place where they can get DL's. I'll bet president Tweeter has something to say about that !

I mean any legal visitor that is far from fluent in English. How can you be on the road if you can't comprehend the launguage ? It's no biggie for an American to go to Ontario, everything virtually the same except for WTF does a flashing green light indicate ?

My Spanish is horrible, but I have driven in Mexico, but only Tijuana back in the mid 80's .Did it about a dozen times, pretty scary driving there, I'd never do it again, wouldn't even go that Hellhole ever again, it's a lot more dangerous 35 years later. I sure wouldn't drive in any European country or Japan etc. Even if legal, I don't know the protocol and don't belong on the road there, especially if they drive on the wrong side of the road, I'd have to at least oserve that for a while before attempting it even in the UK, forget about driving in Germany or somewhere where I know virtually nothing of the language

This may come as a total surprise to you but just because you can't speak another language fluently doesn't mean you can't read basic words such as "stop."

Signs and warnings go far beyond a stop or Alto sign which are at least the same in North America anyway not sure about Europe, etc. I know I shouldn't have been driving on TJ circa 1985, only bad things can happen from that . I went there primarily to play Jai alai on their professional court during the day when games weren't scheduled until the evening, very different court like 220' long when about 180' is the standard, I occasionally played in Vegas at the MGM as well but Tijuana is a hell of a lot closer to SD than Vegas

Please!

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to memorize some words and images. And that's all I would do if I chose to drive in a foreign country. If someone doesn't take the time to do that, then no, they shouldn't be driving. But you're making a mountain out of a molehill on this. It really isn't hard to do. There are a lot of shitty drivers out there, and signage has nothing to do with it.

The main thing is, I would bet that most of them don't have insurance

I wonder how Americans can drive successfully while on vacation in Spain, Italy or France? Seems like it would be a real difficult chore.

I have never had any desire to do that when in a foreign country. But like with anything of this nature, one simply has to do their due diligence. You learn the rules of the road, speed limits, signage, etc. For such a short stay, I would rather not put in the time.

Quick story why people need to read, write and speak English. At a dairy in MASS. a man was cleaning , he walked into an area marked with warning signs and a sign saying "Do not enter" ....an automated palletizer eye was tripped when he walked into area and was killed when it crushed him. Liberals don't like facts....they suffer from a mental disorder......

A great non sequitur there. I also like the stereotype as though a political party has anything to do with this.

I 100% agree. Its flat out a safety issue. But I think the problem lies with the fact the US does not technically have a national language (on a federal leverl) , in-turn making a law probably difficult to pass.

[FONT=Verdana,Tahoma,Arial,Calibri,Geneva,sans-serif]That happened to me when I was in England. Not only do they drive on the wrong side of
road but the cars are built ass backwords. Fortunetly I only drove for a couple of miles
before I realized I was accident waiting to happen and gave the driving back to my bother
in law.

Come to Wisconsin. The new governor is trying to make it easier for ILLEGALS to get a driver license and ID's. Can't make that shit up
