Exit Urban Meyer and his 83-9 record including 54-4 in the Big Ten and enter new guy
Ryan Day. Day is 39 years old and has had a fifteen year coaching career in college
football and the NFL but has never been a full-time head coach. He joined Ohio State's
staff in 2017 after stops at Temple (twice), Boston College (twice), the Philadelphia
Eagles and San Francisco 49ers. He played quarterback at New Hampshire from 1997
to 2001 for Chip Kelly, who was the OC at the time. Day later followed Kelly to the Eagles
(2015) and 49ers (2016) as quarterbacks coach. After two years as offensive coordinator
of the Buckeyes, he now has the opportunity to lead the program.

The coaching staff features all of the offensive coaches from the record setting 2018
campaign plus five new additions, including four on the defensive side of the ball.

Kevin Wilson - Offensive Coordinator, Tight Ends ($950,000)
Wilson is in his third season with Ohio State as offensive coordinator and tight ends coach.

Mike Yurcich - Passing Game Coordinator, quarterbacks ($950,000)
Yurcich begins his first season after working as OC at Oklahoma State the past 6 years.

Tony Alford - Assistant Head Coach, Running Backs ($600,000)
Alford is in his fifth season in Columbus and 22nd season as a running backs coach.

Brian Hartline - Wide Receivers ($345,000)
Hartline is a 2009 Ohio State graduate who spent seven seasons in the NFL.

Greg Studrawa - Offensive Line ($600,000)
Studrawa is in his fourth season with the Buckeyes and this will be his 27th year coaching OL.

Jeff Hafley - Co-Defensive Coordinator, Secondary ($950,000)
Hafley has spent the past seven seasons in the NFL coaching defensive backs.

Greg Mattison - Co-Defensive Coordinator ($1,100,000)
Mattison coached the defensive line at Michigan the past four years.

Larry Johnson - Associate Head Coach, Defensive Line ($900,000)
Johnson was promoted to associate HC and is considered one of the best DL coaches in Big Ten.

Matt Barnes - Special Teams Coordinator, Asst. Secondary ($350,000)
Barnes spent the past three years coaching special teams and linebackers at Maryland.

Al Washington - Linebackers ($500,000)
Washington enters his first season at OSU after coaching LBs at Michigan last year.

There you have it...$7,245,000 worth of assistant coaches. With Day pulling down $4.5 million
and his assistants averaging $724,000 per season...they damn well better WIN!

Well, Arkansas paid out in the neighborhood of 7.8 mil last year for all coaches and Ole Miss near 7.7 mil. They had a combined record of 1-15.

Guess it takes more money to win.

There's a lot of "inertia" that has kept the Ohio State football program in the fast lane of college football during years past, that could change, all it takes is a bad hire or two, especially in a sport that is changing so fast now days, there is so much talent out there today, mix that in with big money and TV, suddenly the "blue blood" teams don't have a lock to a top-10-15 ranking like they did in the past.

When you exclude Luke Fickell's 2011 (6-6) interim year. Ohio State has won and won big
over the last 18 years. During Jim Tressel's ten seasons at Ohio State the Buckeyes were
106-22 and 66-14 in Big Ten play. Add in Urban Meyer's 83-9 record along with his Big Ten
mark of 54-4 and you have some remarkable numbers.

Try 189-31 overall, 120-18 in conference play and 11 Big Ten titles. Add in a national champion-
ship here and there and Ohio State has been one impressive football program.

This new coaching staff better Win and WIN in a hurry!
