Seems like so many of these nefarious multiple felony convicted guys finally get nailed for a real serious final felony like Murder one, and accept a plea bargain to life without parole in order to avoid death penalty.

Shit, if it was me facing life, I'd be begging for the penalty, please let me check out right now, Judge !

life.

I can escape.

Escape would be a thought but that should almost impossible for a lifer probably held at a maximum security level place, it has accomplished, these guys can be quite creative with the hacks they devise to improve the quality of their lives and create weapons put of whatever available even something like a toothbrush. It's really fascinating how they manage to do stuff, in particular since they tend to be poorly educated. They would have the right instincts to survive an escape. Almost all escapees are caught quickly

I'm sure many , oh don't know right word... Say socialigists love to read about them. It's some sort of strange society for sure , yet it has order to it somehow ! Personally I will check out before becoming a part of that culture. A day or two in county is enough for me.

The guy who just robbed the Bellagio made a correct decision to get shot and killed rather than get caught and do life in prison.

Depends on the crime. Some prison's "aren't that bad." I knew someone that got 15 years in the state pen (only did 6) and still talk with him today. He got to workout a lot and just hang out. No it wasn't great by any means but he said it wasn't that bad and nowhere near as bad as he expected.

And if you want to be gay you can be gay but if not they leave you alone.

Death.

You people have no idea how bad that life really is, If you have lived a first world lifestyle, a week in jail would seem like 3 months

Never clean, eat absolutely horrible food, no privacy, no medical care, you will be fighting no matter who you are, told what to do everyday and nothing you can do about it. If you want even the simplest of luxuries like a coke, someone will need to put money on your books. Speaking of, your family will suffer bad. The system will rip you off on food and phone calls/ Family may have to drive hours upon hours each way for a 30 minute visit. And the staff doesnt giver a shit about your situation or your family's

Your mom died? No you will not be going to the funeral and worse, showing sadness is showing weakness

And there is always the risk of getting hepatitis because those dirty ass inmates are the ones making the food

You will not have legitimate toiletiries either, you will not be sleeping on a mattress, it will be about a 6" mat.

You are going to watch TV all day you say? If you are lucky and have your own TV, you will also have a cellie. It's constantly noisy no matter the time. Its a 1980's 10" TV with limited channels. You will not have your Roku with the league pass

And to top it off, your life will always be in jeopardy

And you better be racist because everything is seperated by race. You want to get along with everyone? Oh boy. The blacks will view you as weak and the whites will look at you as a race traitor.

I think the greatest one summed it up nicely. I've done any significant time. Most recent was a sentence of 96 hours about 3-4 years ago, that's just a brief visit to county jail with minor league criminals, real big boy actual prison has to be far worse. I did meet a few interesting guys while there. One guy in particular was a professional shoplifter, he made a career out of it and going to jail occasionally was just a cost of doing business. He ran an operation of sorts had employees working for him . The goal was to steal shit and return it for cash later, he told me a lot about how the business works. He mostly did the returns and not the actual shoplifting, he was too well known and kind of freakish looking, so he stands out . He returned stuff primarily to Walmart, but said never steal from them security is too good. They used to take anything back without a receipt no problem, they changed their policy awhile back and will only do that a few times before cutting you off, they track you by your driver's license, so you can do still do that but not to excess

Can you gamble in jail. Lololol

Actually yes, just not in the sports book / internet sense, my jail experiences are limited to 4 days in CT and 9 days in Clark county ( Vegas), that really should have been one day at most . I don't claim to be no expert on the subject from an internal viewpoint, others here know far more than me from actually doing real time, I've had enough of a taste of it to say, I don't like this at all !

Naturally they make it as miserable as possible for you, they don't want you back just as much as you don't want to be there.

There is gambling inside, I'll defer that to some of our more experienced ex-con posters

Decent answer but obviously I was referring to being in the spot of facing the death penalty or plea bargaining it down to life without parole, it takes literally decades to get the perp into the death room with all kinds of apeals, some automatically done even if the in mate comes forward and says I want to check out, this place is worse than being dead, I'll voluntarily check out, warden, just pass me the paperwork sir !

Realistically only Florida and Texas really actually use the death penalty, it might be quicker there . Don't mess with Texas or the IRS and DMV. This thread begs for a comment from our resident Houston cop, he has to have something to say about this subject !
