At least I think it is new. They offer a pretty nice package of cable channels plus an antenna for local channels for $40/ month with all fees included. No contract

It's a satelite based system so something akin to Direct TV, I'm fine with a dish on the roof that's not the problem. Costs about $300 for the initial installation.

The issue is a clear line of sight is needed to the SW , and I'm heavily treed in, I hate damn trees !
I have a decent idea which way is SW, but it would be good to know precisely what direction needs to be clear, I can't cut the trees down they are not on my property.

I'd go for this deal if I thought it would work
Apparently I could schedule an installation, pay for it in advance and get a refund if the installer determines it won't work. I really don't want to go through all of that stuff when I am pretty sure it won't work. Does anyone know how to determine if it would work, short of getting an installer here ? I'm not 100 percent certain about what I think is SW, but pretty sure, if it was straight South, it might work

If you live on east coast roughly 235 degrees sw, elevation 37 to 40 degrees. Trees matter, sometimes you can get a signal in the winter but when the leaves come out goodbye signal

just leave CT

Definitely under consideration, I don't especially like it here, in fact I did get the Hell out of here shortly after graduating high school in 1982. I had $2,000 saved up plus a coin collection worth perhaps 15 k or so in a safe deposit box that I could always instruct my Mom to sell a particular item and send me the cash if needed, so I had considerable resources behind me .

So I go to San Diego area, specifically north county SD,live there 4-5 years, best area I lived in.
I won't go in detail but then went to Colorado Springs for a couple of years , a perfect sized city maybe 300 k population then, not a hick little town or a too giant city like NYC.lived with my brother there . The best thing about Colorado is the people there are just fantastic, they just have such a great attitude and are unlike folks anywhere else. My much older by 7.5 years got the Hell out of CT right after HS as well, he's been in Contact since 1973, loves it there, had a career as an electrical engineer, now living his dream in semi retirement by living way up in the mountains in Dillon and works as a home inspector, doesn't need the job, more of a hobby type job ... it's not really a job if you're doing something you enjoy doing, finding that job is the challenge, most people work a job they basically hate, IMO !

Anyhow big brother sums it up nicely

Connecticut is a nice place...

To be from !

So after Co, Vegas for about 6 years, them back to CT when Mom needed help with Alzheimer's and such.

No compelling reason I need to be in CT, most of my relatives are deceased or have left the state, I really don't need to see my 1st X-WIFE in person, phone is good enough. I rarely see my stepdaughters

in person that is done primarily via texting

Nothing really requires me to be here. I'm going to break this into two posts, I suspect I'm near my character limit.

The current problem is it not so easy to just pick up and book off to California or wherever. I could do that easily when I was 18, throw my stuff in the old ever reliable Dodge Dart and go, things are much different at 55.

I own a lot more things now, like a house for example, tons of tools, and countless other stuff that I can't just toss in a car and go like it was 1982. I don't have any strong famial reason necessitating my continued presence here however it's just not so easy as it once was.
I happen to like my old 1948 house that is uniquely secluded with hundreds of acres of forest land and a saltwater marsh as my neighbor. I only have one actual neighbor and his house is like 75 meters distant, plus he's a great guy , so no problem there. My health isn't perfect either and I like the doctors I deal with here very muchly.

Another reason not to move is I'm not sure where to even go . North county San Diego would be great especially Del Mar to Carlsbad on the coast, I'd return there in a heartbeat, but couldn't afford to live there with current prices.actually plenty of West coast places. Somewhere new would be good to

Orange county
San Francisco
Seattle
Even Vancouver, but Canada would most likely not even let me in the country ?
None of those places are affordable enough for me.

Could do the Eastern seaboard say between Fla and NC, it is at least affordable. Fla is just too hot and humid to live there year round, the Carolinas would be more appropriate. The problem with that whole region is it's very prone to hurricanes which hardly ever make it to CT, they die by the time they get here, usually.

Back to Vegas ? Been there ,done that, frankly kind of a shit city, no desire to ever go back there, but it does have A couple of good points.
Somewhere new to me is what I'd want, maybe

Corpus Christi
Flagstaff
Somewhere in Colorado
A foreign country ?

I don't have a realistic option as my go to place if I just left here, without some definite plan I have no choice but to remain here

A bit too technical Pete, degrees and elevation, how do I determine that stuff ? I have a general idea which way SW is, but have no idea as to how to precisely determine the exact path needed and I lack the ability to do it by degrees and such unless given instructions on how to do that. I've pretty much abonded any thoughts about satellite TV anyway, but you are very helpful and I appreciate you as a poster .
I'm thinking more along the lines of a good roof mounted antenna for a one time investment, has to be better than the thing I have taped to my window presently. I will not use Comcast, now Infinity
. Two companies I absolutely despise are

Bank of America
Comcast

I can this for sure a dish that needs SW expousure would never work, it's a virtual forest in that direction with gigantic oak and elm trees, no way on Comcast they can kiss my hindquarters.

Looking at Nitro leaves me with some queries, they don't seem to have a phone number. The number of channels and $20/ month is fantastic.
I'm uncertain what I would need to use it, though, but I'm willing to learn. They talk about devices.

I can

I lack some of the things I know I would need to do it.for certain a very high speed internet connection, I guess a computer and router, is there anything else needed ? I guess step one is seeing if I can get a connection that is fast enough and a new laptop, then I won't have to use the phone as a computer and just buy data as needed

I use Nitro. Buy an Amazon firestick. Then go to https://www.nitrotviptv.com/. All directions are there and it's easy to do. I've never needed customer service.

Download instructions. Use method 2. https://www.nitrotviptv.com/nitrotv-apk-download/
