I don't mean the groomer getting a number wrong and reminding of my appointment for Lulu' s grooming tomorrow, sorry Hon, I don't own a dog.

I get 2-3 calls every day that just show up as the area code and number and a state name, could be CT, co, tx, or anywhere else, I answer, they never reply then it disconnects, I've even called back usually a busy signal or it just rings with no answer. I most frequently answer these with something like the fuck do you want ? Give them 5 seconds, hang up and block the number, that does no good they can call back with an endless supply of numbers. Ignored one of these calls today, I did get a recorded message " this is
the SSA, we are informing you your SSN is being suspended due to suspicious activity in Texas , call us immediately at 303-731-4303. I recognize 303 as Co. SSA and IRS etc , send mail . I'm tepred to call them back but I'm sure they won't even answer phone.

It's some sort of a scam but that doesn't explain the thousands of other calls before this amateurish crap began over a year ago !

It's like some little kids are targeting me with an advanced version of childhood crank call in the 70's

Is your refrigerator running ?

Do you have Prince Albert in a can ?

Can you please page Mike Hunt for me ?

Anbody else getting these calls just identied by state and no answer ?

Better yet anyway to stop them , when you don't who they are ?

Yes Doug it's a regular thing these days.

They use an app or software that allows them to make any number they like appear when calling.

So if u block that number, they just type in a different one next time.

Often they will use the same area code as yours to get you to answer.

Here's an example: https://bluffmycall.com

You can go to that site and call anyone you like, and cover it up with anyone's number showing on their end.

Seriously though, it's probably one of these scammers hoping an elderly person picks up the phone.

Get my fair share of them. I do not pick up any call where I do not recognize the number. Let the caller leave a message. GL.

I get 3-6 of these every single day. Unfortunately with my job I have to answer unknown numbers as they could be anything related to my business.

Many of these calls now come from local area codes

Call spoofers. They take your number and scramble a few digits. You will get many calls with same exchanges. In NJ 856 or 609 and often spoof the next 3 digits to match yours and then take the last four digits use some of yours. They try to confuse you to answer the phone. I get calls all the time from Medford, NJ a town near me. That's because the spoofer uses the Medford exchange hoping you know someone there or maybe it's your kids school. Once you answer your number is Gold. They will sell it to as many scammers as they can. They know it's a live number. You only have to answer one or two calls. They program the robocallers to make your number a high priority.

You would be surprised how often people fall for the scams, especially older people. My grandmother almost paid on the IRS scam calls. With social media these scams are getting increasingly sophisticated.

I recieved a scam call at work. They knew the officers name, key employees, information about the business from the past, number of employees etc.

The Faux IRS calls and Faux Microsoft calls are beyond annoying for my 83-YO mother. Its unbelievable how many calls she gets for Life-alert type products, construction for railings, and other senior services. The Do Not Call registry doesn't do any good anymore.

Feel assured you are not alone here.. I'm a senior and they very rarely leave a message. The ones that do are just next to a zero on the stupid level. It does seem to go in spurts.. Once it was daily, but recently has been 2 -3 calls per week... Never answered.. Good luck!

I never answer my phone unless I know the caller.

I receive about 20 requests per week for job quotes. Since I added, "text messages welcome" three years ago, those inquiries now are about 50% leave voicemail and 50% send text messages.

And for those who do leave voicemails, my first response is via text msg and in about 80% of those all conversation is done via texts.

Avoiding phone conversations has helped me increase sales and overall production for me and my affiliate owners by approx 50% from 2016 to this year.

I do my talking to clients face to face. That noted, in upwards of almost half our business, the preview, job quote, booking, scheduling is done via text message. And only upon job completion and invoicing does any significant talking occur....Mostly, Thank you, great job, here's your payment, will text you again soon.

They are relentless, for certain. It's a pure volume game for them. I think the ultimate goal is either identity theft or maybe just a quick attempt to get $1,000 or whatever they can from vulnerable prey, like elderly, senile, or just plain naive folks

It's amazing the information you can find out about someone with just knowing first and last name and a town for whomever you reseach.

Try googling just your own name and a town

You'll easily come up with incredibly personal info . Stuff like phone numbers, age, present and former addresses, people associated with you like parents, siblings, spouse, your mother inlaw's name, basically all kinds of shit that you thought was somewhat private, and that's just the free version of these sites, pay them a small fee and you'll get even more like criminal history, etc.

Huge privacy issues. Try it for yourself using your own name or anybody you want . Just first and last name and a location, you will be blown away by what appears !
