Dick’s Sporting Goods’ bottom line took a very big hit after halting the sale of assault-style weapons in response to the Parkland school massacre.

The policy change cost the nation’s largest sporting goods retailer about $150 million in lost sales, about 1.7 percent of annual revenue, Bloomberg News reported Friday.

But boss Ed Stack isn’t complaining.

“The system does not work,” Stack said, according to the news outlet. “It’s important that when you know there’s something that’s not working, and it’s to the detriment of the public, you have to stand up.”

Parkland gunman Nikolas Cruz purchased a shotgun from Dick’s a few months before the attack, which left 17 dead, including a number of students.

Stack also banned the sale of all guns to anyone under 21.

Still, the gun ban hasn't affected Dick’s stock price, Bloomberg reported.

Shares have climbed 14 percent in the 13 months since Parkland. Shares rose slightly Friday.

After the ban was announced, the National Rifle Association criticized Stack’s “strange business model,” according to Bloomberg.

Also, the National Shooting Sports Foundation kicked Dick’s out of the organization. Gun manufacturers liked Mossberg stopped do business with Dick’s.

Those who supported the ban promised to become Dick’s customers but did not stay the course.

“Love is fleeting. Hate is forever,” Stack said.

Hard to believe they sold that many assault rifles. If you said a $1,000 a rifle which seems like a decent enough guess ?

That's 150,000 rifles, and that's just one retailer ! Are there really that many of these weapons out there ?

the weapon that the scumbag shooter used was NOT purchased at dicks.

Dicks does a lot in our community and supports our youth sports teams.

The funniest thing about “Dicks” in my city is that it’s located next to a “BJ’s”

Unbelievably 1.3 million assault rifles are sold in the US every year. It seems to me a weapon like that should last many years/ decades, so that means there must be tens of millions of these ultra deadly weapons out there .

Reminds me of the old Lynyrd Skynyrd song, Saturday night special, there's a lyric...

Handguns are made for killin', ain't good for nuthin' else
Then what is an AR-15 good for ?
Killing people by the dozen ?
I'm not anti-gun but I see no reason why anyone not in military could ever need such a rifle. It's not for target practice or eliminating nuisance wildlife like a squirrel or something.it's not for hunting purposes, total Overkill for home protection purposes, it's for blowing away Bunches of people. I have no problem with someone owning a handgun, shotgun, hunting rifle, etc.

I hate giving up my rights to the govt, but I say ban this type of weapon.

It makes no difference where it was purchased as long as Dick's broke no laws in the sale . The retailer or manufacturer should never be subject to a lawsuit if no violation exists

Pretty funny about Dick's and BJ's

correct. I was mere responding to the 5th paragraph in the opening statement saying that the shooter bought a gun from dicks.

The actual store that he purchased the AR 15 shut down VERY fast

You're only looking at sales of the rifle as being the reason for the loss of income. How about customers that won't shop there period anymore?

Are you saying people boycotting the store because they sold the gun that was used, if that were the case ?

That's mostly because we can get the same stuff cheaper online. Has very little to do with not selling rifles. The stock price has gone up and they continue to pay a dividend. Compared to Sears they're definitely doing something right

I guess both could be the case. People boycotting the store based on the sale of the weapon and people boycotting the store now based on the decision not to sell the weapon. Both could be possible I guess.

Doug, know what you’re talking about if you want to debate gun laws. AR-15 is the same as every other rifle sold. Only diff is the clip size . This is why we will never give up our guns !
