What's wrong with the Pac 12 Conference?

The Pac 12 ended last season with just two ranked teams in the final AP Poll: Washington
and Washington State. That's fewer than the Mountain West Conference which had three:
Fresno State, Boise State and Utah State. The SEC finished with six ranked teams and the
Big Ten finished with five. While the Atlantic Coast Conference matched the Pac 12 with
just two teams, one of its members won the national championship.

Will the Pac 12 be better represented this season? Washington, Oregon, Utah, Washington
State maybe?

I don't know but I have cleaned up in bowl games, going against them ATS... will do it again next season.

Long ago, plodding, run oriented cold weather Big 10 teams Ohio St, Michigan, came to the Rose Bowl, hadn't seen passing offenses like UCLA, Stanford, finesse in the warm weather and the Big 10 teams were in over their heads...

IMHO the PAC-12 cannibalizes itself ( like the SEC claims to) but the PAC-12 seem to have a better balance of middling teams. Note how many are ranked before conference play starts. Also the PAC-12 travels a little more which i feel takes its toll over the course of a season

Until USC rights the ship , conference will probably lag behind some.. It takes at least 2 other conference teams to be outstanding to make up the difference. When Ducks and Stanford were both on top 10 in recent years , conference was in better shape.. over last couple of years , Washington wasn't able to hold the Pac 12 banner all on its own

How they finish in divisions (early, early projection).

NORTH
1. Oregon - Plenty to like offensively and defensively.
2. Washington - Conference champs lose 9 starters off defense.
3. Washington State - The Leach system is clearly in place.
4. Stanford - Defense hasn't been dominate in years.
5. Cal - Need help from the offense.
6. Oregon State - Simply put...outclassed in personnel.

SOUTH
1. Utah - Primed position to win two South titles in a row.
2. UCLA - Return bulk of depth chart on both sides of the ball.
3. Arizona State - Key departures leave little margin for error.
4. USC - So much uncertainty.
5. Arizona - Both lines of scrimmage are a concern.
6. Colorado - New coach could surprise if everything breaks right.

Really surprised to see UCLA predicted 2nd. Seems like Chip Kelly has mailed it in - especially on the recruiting front.

Coach, I bet less on Pac 12 teams than any other conference...maybe because I know less about
their teams. I keep up with Washington State but that's about it. I may be wrong but I don't believe
Pac 12 football is on par with what it once was.

Purdue coach Jeff Brohm now makes more money than every coach in the Pac 12 and the salary
pool for assistants at Purdue is larger than every program except Washington. No offense Purdue
fans but a third tier football program in the Big Ten has the cash and willingness to pay its coach
more than the most accomplished coaches at the top programs in the Pac 12. Is the Pac 12 "drifting
out of range" financially and competitively with other Power 5 conferences. The Big Ten will dis-
tribute about $51 million to each of its schools. The Pac 12 will send approximately $33 million for
comparison. The struggling Pac 12 Network doesn't help either. "Drifting out of range", seems like
it.

*Currently the highest paid football coach in the Pac 12 is Washington's Chris Peterson who earned
$4.375 in 2018. Purdue's Brohm will be paid about 1 million more per season. Peterson is one hell
of a coach...Brohm may become one but he's just 13-13 at Purdue.

Not sure why a Purdue coach would even make that much..overpaid for him is my guess.. thats not the Pac 12s fault that Purdue is overpaying their coaches

A little Purdue history;
Purdue was the toilet team of the BIG10 for years. From 2013 to 2016 they went 9-39 with three of those nine BIG10 wins, Illinois twice and Neb. Their stands mostly empty for home games.
In comes Brohm and first year they win six and go to bowl game, win that too! Fans are now showing up.
Second year Brohm recruits 5'9" Rondale Moore at WR. He looks about 5'7". This kid is electrifying, has some good quicks. As a true freshman he had 114 rec for 1258 yards but only 2 td's. He gave the Purdue offense new life.
Then, the Ohio State game! On national TV, with cancer stricken Purdue fan Tyler Trent watching and being interviewed, Purdue crushes the #2 rated Buckeyes 49-20.
Suddenly Purdue has completed a 180 degree turnaround. No, they are not a top ten team, NO, they didn't win the Big10, but YES, they have something to believe in. And hope.
Then along comes Louisville trying to take Brohm. No F-ing way says Purdue, they pay up! Good for them!

When we all think about college football , we don't think about Purdue or Brohm....you had it right with first sentence.." A little Purdue history "

Purdue a "toilet team" ? Perhaps when you look at the "long history" of the Boilermakers you might think differently, I cite their long history and tradition of producing some of the best Quarterbacks since the advent of the T-Formation style of offensive play, the list exceeds all college team QB production including the "Blue Blood" teams in the Big-10/12 (Michigan and Ohio State).

1. Dale Samuels during the early 50"s.
2. Gary Danielson...Early 70's
3. Len Dawson.....mid-50's
4. Bob DeMoss.....,mid-40's
5. Jim Everett .......early 80's
6. Bob Griese........64-65
7. Mike Phipps....67-69
8. Drew Brees....1997-2000
9 Kyle Orton......2001-04
10. Curtis Painter..2005-08

I saw everyone of these guys play QB, (yes, even Bob DeMoss back in 1945). Individually they all were great, collectively they were matched by no other group of team QB's in college, today or yesteryear.

Purdue University and its fans and alumni (which I am not) can be proud of the cradle of QB's they have produced during the past 70 years. I realize it takes more than QB's to produce national or conference champions but they sure make exciting football take place.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! I'm only referring to the Hazell coaching period. (2013-2016) He was 9-33. They were at their lowest. Joe Tiller was a damn good coach and had some nice teams. And yes they have a long list of top NFL QB's. Was trying to justify why Purdue is paying so much for Brohm now. He took the same players and went to a bowl game first year and won. He brought them back to winning again.
Nothing but respect for Purdue. ...……………………….Except their visitors locker room needs A/C. :)

A little behind the times on this one, guess they added A/C.

Did not know Dawson played there. I will never forget watching the longest game in history as a six-year-old in my grandparents' basement by myself on Christmas day, though it was Podolak not Dawson I remember making the plays for the Chiefs.

Washington has won the Pac 12 championship 2 out of the past 3 years including
last season. The Huskies also have the highest paid head coach and assistants pool
in the conference. Coincidence...…………? Listed below are the 2019 salaries for
Washington's assistants.

Jimmy Lake (co-DC/DBs) $1.400,000
Pete Kwitatkowski (co-DC/OLBs) $950,000
Bush Hamdan (OC/QBs) $750,000
Bob Gregory (ILBs) $550,000
Scott Huff (OL) $550,000
Ikaika Malloe (DL) $455,000
Keith Bhonapha (RBs) $380,000
Junior Adams (WRs) $375,000
Jordan Paopao (TEs) $300,000
Will Harris (DBs) $230,000

Sidenote: Dakota State an NAIA school in South Dakota has an opening for
the defensive coordinator position. This is a full time position that pays $32,000
plus benefits. The position is responsible for running the entire defense, along
with recruiting, fundraising, academic support, and all other duties assigned by
the head coach. Get the picture...………………………..

Non-conference schedule (easiest to toughest)

12. Utah - @BYU, Northern Ill, Illinois State
11. Arizona - @Hawaii, Northern Arizona, Texas Tech
10. Arizona St. - Kent St., Sacramento St., @Michigan St.
9. Washington - Eastern Wash, Hawaii, @BYU

3. UCLA - @Cincinnati, San Diego St., Oklahoma
2. USC - Fresno St., @BYU, @Notre Dame
1. Stanford - Northwestern, @Central Fla., Notre Dame

... about 36 games.
I will selectively go against the soft overhyped Pac 12, ATS, in many, maybe even most, of these games, small or medium plays TBD. Somehow their brands are still percieved nationally as positive (USC! UCLA!...)
Then probably will not mess with many during their conference games.
Then when the media glorifies them for conference success, I will go against the conference "winners" (as usual) in bowl games, medium & big.
Easy.
