It arrives today as scheduled , box is in pristine condition, everything seems fine.

I take my time and carefully unbox it, looks fine, I put the feet on the thing, get it into the spot where it lives, after removing the old set, hook up the antenna and DVD player, and the AC power, then put the batteries in the remote it's no
time to test it, all I get is the little red power on/off light going on and off.

So I call the the company (Sharp ) spend about an hour talking to their representative trying different stuff none of it works so now I have to physically return it to Walmart for a refund.
I've got to disassemble the feet and repack it into the box then board a bus with this, or pay the taxi guy, I'll bus it, wait in the return line, another half hour easily for that, then another hour bus ride to get back !
Then still no TV, have to order another one.

Today ain't my lucky day !

I ordered online for several reasons.
Far better selection online than in-store, free shipping usually and it's quick, so right back to square one.

I might keep the wall mount, I presume it works with any brand TV. I might as well open the box and take a closer look at to see if looks like it is feasible, at $10 , a huge potential bargain ?
I don't blame Walmart for the defective product, I blame Sharp which is really Hisense.

Last time I returned something ordered from Walmart online, they emailed me a postage paid return label, which I printed put on the box. Post office picked it up , new item was sent.

  • How do I return an item sold and shipped by Walmart.com?
  • To return your item by mail, log in to your account, click on 'My Account', 'Track Orders' & then 'View Details'. Click 'Start a Return' to print a free return label.
  • Package the item you wish to return along with all original packing materials & accessories, then mail as directed.
  • You'll receive a refund or replacement once we receive the item.
  • To return your item to a store, bring it along with the original packing materials & accessories. No receipt? No problem. We can look up your item!

That can work for some, but I'm poor and have no computer or printer, my phone is my computer ! I don't work and have no plans to do so. I'm retired.

The company offered to mail me the label, said it was usually done FedEx, I'm sure I could request a pickup and go that way.

It's all about time, my easiest solution is to return in physically to a B&M Walmart, shipping it back would get me the very same set back repaired, or a new one of the same model. I don't believe I want the same thing again when the first one didn't work !

The only positive is I now know exactly how a 40" looks in the space allocated, fits well, I could go up to as high as a 43", but a 50" is too much

you should have ordered from best buy and have the geek squad come in and set it up while you just sat there and watched.

I'm not an electrical engineer, but capable enough to hook up a simple TV ,to power and a signal, I possess enough construction work skills to easily find a stud and do a wall mount. I'm not an ace with all the modern technology, but if the product is defective, no geek can fix that ! Everything is made to the standards that sell best, most everything made in China now

It was different when I was a mere lad back in the 70's, back then the cheapest stuff was labelled ..."hecho en Mexico" or perhaps Taiwan, Philippines, etc.

Make no error, China is now a serious military power and quite capable of producing high quality stuff like say an aircraft carrier.

They make crappy useless unnecessary cheap ass junk because that is what Americans love and will readily purchase, that's why dollar stores exist, they are a bad choice most frequently but great for certain specific items , like say greeting cards

The key thing in buying anything these days is to get one that actually works, you may very well have to return stuff 2-3 times to get the one that actually works, very frustrating !

Last time I bought a refrigerator it had to be replaced twice before you get a good one that works.

You just about have to expect anything will be defective and plan to return it at least once. Walmart at least takes stuff back easily. I will not use Best buy because they have a bad reputation for accepting returns and are like 30 kilometers away, so hard to even get there.

Online not a good option if a return is likely probable, too much time delay.

I know what I don't want, better than what I do want.

No Best buy or online merchant for a TV

None of these brands

Sharp (really Hisense )

Insignia, that is Best buy's house brand, it gets horrible reviews.

Realistically Walmart is my only option

I'm going to take a gamble on this one, it's all but ordered, will complete it this morning

RCA 40". Rlded4016a
$139+ tax delivered, hopefully I get lucky and get the one in three that actually works this time ?

I changed my mind about returning this via bus, I'll get my I'll eagle taxi service buddy to bring me there , $8 plus I always give him an extra buck or two as a tip, then Easy enough to take the bus home

I'm not difficult, I just kinda expect a brand new product to work. You hook it all up and all it does is turn the little red LED indincator light on/ off, you'd be pissed to. Refrigerator ( new) fails within 2 weeks ,bad compressor problems, and the same thing with the replacement, the third one finally works.

Washing machines are awful too, you pay like $1,000 for the damn thing and it screws up pretty soon and it is way too unnecessarily electronic, sir we need to replace the motherboard for $800 or something....but it's only 2 years old but out of warranty. Give me one like my mother had with mechanical controls that never break, please

As to buying a house, that is as is, like a used car from a private party. Hire a home inspection company to check it out for you for a couple of hundred bucks, you'll get a very detailed report from an expert and any defincies can be requested for repairs or allow you to explain to the seller why your offer is at such a price. If a new home then you expect more, but otherwise you bought it and have no recourse.
A used car have your mechanic look it over, or low-ball it, a gamble for sure. If it was one of those so-called certified used cars from a dealer then they have the liability to back up their guarantee.

As to X-mas gifts, yeah spot on, only I know what I really want to acquire, cash is just a classless no thought gift, a gift card is a touch better, more personal items are really hit/ miss propositions unless you are pretty certain that item is desired. This is true for everyone. You just have to accept the gift graciously and then decide what to do with something you really don't want. If not returnable you could regift it Craigslist it.

I am never difficult to deal with in person.

Most of what we buy is Chinese made junk made to lower standards specifically for Americans that have a penchant for buying totally useless unnecessary crap like say a special thing to hang your bananas on. Old hop sing back in China must be laughing at the crap he makes for the factory for those stupid Americans.

I got 7 years out of my Samsung, I can accept that

Doug I read some of the reviews on that rca tv and a lot of people had issues with the audio not sounding too good. The problem with these flat screen tv's is they are so thin putting in decent speakers is a challenge. Only you can decide if the audio is good enough, everyone is different. I know you are on a budget but If you aren't happy with the audio you could add a sound bar. Good luck with the tv hope it works out for you.

Exactly correct, I haven't ordered just yet but will do so soon. When looking at hundrefs of reviews there will always be some dissatisfied consumers. As long as it doesn't sound like a $5 clock/ radio it will be fine and a sound bar can be added later if it really sucks so bad that I can't deal with it. My sense of hearing is much better than my eyesight, not at all worried about that, just get one that works and if the sound is atrociousally unacceptable, then get the sound bar, I'm not some snobbish audiophile sort
