CULVER CITY, Calif. — A 34-year-old professional sports gambler from Las Vegas won more than $110,000 on “Jeopardy!” on Tuesday, breaking the record for single-day cash winnings.

The show said in a press release that James Holzhauer won the episode with a total of $110,914. The previous record of $77,000 was set by Roger Craig in 2010.

Tuesday’s win was the fourth consecutive victory for Holzhauer, whose winnings total more than $244,000. He will face two new challengers Wednesday.

“Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek revealed in March that he was diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer but said he intends to fight the disease and keep on working. The episode that aired Tuesday was taped Feb. 11.

I watched that episode last night. The guy is a machine. Pretty sure he answered only one question incorrectly. Once he has control of the board he goes for the daily doubles and the two other contestants looked like deer in the headlights. If you do not know how to play cut throat Jeopardy you will not beat this guy.

And this is the first person I have ever seen to claim their occupation is professional gambler.

He's destroying the competition. I'm not sure what his two opponents scored when he finished with over 100k but yesterday the guy next to him finished with a negative score and I think he only got two or three questions right he was so flustered. I can't imagine how much it must suck to kick ass at Jeopardy your whole life and then the one opportunity you get to be on the show you run into a buzz saw like him. I wish him and Ken Jennings could go head to head.

I didn't see that episode, but I gotta think there is some amount of luck involved in having Jeopardy pick categories that you have studied. For example, my wife majored in ancient languages, classical
civilization, art history... all that crap. She runs circles around me in those areas. So if I'm going up against her, and the category "ancient Greek literature" comes up, I'm screwed.

Yes,he calls himself a professional sports bettor, seems odd to me though, the first day Alex asked him "what do you bet on?" He said "everything" I don't think a pro bettor would say that. Then another day Alex asked him " What sport is your favorite to bet" He hesitated, said " I bet a lot,I guess the NFL is my favorite" Seems to me he would be more specific

I think they said Naperville IL and he attended Illinois. Worked for a poker training site after college then became a Professional Gambler which they mentioned on the show. He said he likes NFL the best because they allow the largest bets. I think he mentioned he initially mostly played futures bets as a Professional.

Can someone with a photographic memory that has read a lot be just as good at Jeopardy as someone highly intelligent?

    This guy is a beast.......

Haven't seen any recent episodes but I think a professional gambler that wins would claim to be be something else on national TV so as to remain somewhat anonymous. How about investor or trader or something like that. Whatever he is, he's got to be a genius of sorts, you don't win Jeopardy like that by luck alone

This guy is something. Today he went "all in" on a Daily Double for $8,200 and missed it taking him to $0 and 3rd place. Then went on a tear hitting 2 consecutive all in Daily Doubles and cruised to an easy victory

At the first commercial break he got like 15 questions right and 0 wrong guesses, the second place guy got 2 questions right, and the poor lady in 3rd place has 0 and hasn't even gotten to buzz in to guess yet.

30 questions, this poor lady was only able to buzz in once. This guy is ridiculous, it'd be like watching Shaq in his prime against some high school kids at the local park.

Waiting for someone to buzz in every time whether they know the answer or not
