The Juan Santamaria Airport will have a terminal exclusively for private international flights which will operate under the name GAT SJO General Aviation Terminal and that will be managed by Universal Aviation Costa Rica and other local partners.
Costa Rica’s main international airport received over 800 private flights in 2018 and this number is expected to increase to at least 1000 this year. The objective of the new terminal is to reduce the time on land of these private operators.

The new terminal is located in a separate area next to the domestic terminal; the investment is of close to $900,000 (USD).
“With the GAT we will significantly improve the accessibility and attractive of the country, which translates into more opportunities of investment and development”, explained Rafael Mencía, executive director of Aeris Costa Rica, operator of the Juan Santamaria Airport.
“This project will drastically reduce the operators’ time on land. While the experience will differentiate from the current inbound and outbound process in which they mix with commercial flights”, commented Adolfo Aragón, Vice-President of Latin America & Caribbean, Universal.
