Lots of debate on if it was warranted.

I had the 1, so perhaps I'm biased. But I thought it was the correct call. Any other day, any other track, it takes 2 min to DQ him. Not 20 minutes.

Curious as to what everyone here thinks. And yes PulledClear, you can add your comments.

Not sure if it was right or wrong... I had to leave right after the race. Seen I won, had a good day, checked and dinner.... and lost! Dang it! I was up quite a bit too...

Definitely the right call and stewards should be embarrassed that an inquiry was never posted. Of all the horse players here how many have ever seen objections upheld without an inquiry posted with it? He was probably the best horse, never know but that’s an inquiry all day long.

No Dog in the Fight here...I have seen much worse and no call, and like was said above NO Inquiry?

One thing I know is the eventual winner I do not think will win another graded stakes race...But could be wrong

I watched a replay of the race again and watching it I believe that Saez lost track of who was behind him and when he felt the 1 behind him he went left and almost took out the #13 on the rail but clearly a foul and right call be the stewards and I played a 7-20 ex for the hell of it

Dude I actually feel bad for you because it looked like the 1 was really starting to kick for home and had a real chance to win. It was an obvious foul by the 7.

Great point. But in their defense I didnt notice it until the replay either. But in 53 years I have never seen a DQ without an inquiry sign lit.

I had 7/all/all tri. In real time i didn't se him foul the 1 but i thought he fouled the horse on the rail. But a foul is a foul is a foul.

I've been to a few other horse racing sites, and the consensus is that it was an awful DQ.

Main point is that the winner wasn't going to win.....but geezus, why are all of those folks dismissing what happened to WOW? Their response is that WOW didn't launch an objection.

That’s what so embarrassing. Country House wasn’t impeded as much as WOW so he probably should have lost the objection. It should have been an inquiry period IMO and it was never posted. Sorry to all affected negatively. There will be much to come about this decision I am sure.

I get where they are coming from. But the reality is that the DQ was correct irrespective of who lodged the objection. So many people had the 7 horse in so many styles of bets there is going to be a lot of sour grapes.

The 7 caused trouble in the turn, no doubt. But in all the years I've been watching horse racing they allow wild west riding in these big races. Using that as precedent the horse should have stayed up. And yes, I have seen many clear and flagrant fouls before. Not called.

It is true that the stewards never launched an inquiry. Probably because they know how to call these races - let them run and let them ride rough.

Having said all of that it was ridiculous that they took near a half hour to make that call. Not a good face for horse racing in view of all the casual horse players who get involved on Derby Day.

Finally, would someone please explain to me how they decided to eventually place Maximum Security seventeenth after taking him down. That is the nuttiest part of the whole thing.

And one last thing, the #1 was fighting with his rider all the way around the track and was repeatedly steadied. The #7 had nothing to do with that.

You can't make that call in the Kentucky derby......every year there are infractions by horses impeding on others, crossing paths, bumping hard, clipping heels & in 145 year derby history, there's never been a disqualification.......so all of a sudden there is? Give me a break......if Maximum Security was trained by Baffert or Pletcher, this horse 100% would not have been disqualified.

If you want the correct calls to be made by stewards, go watch cheaper races......you shouldn't get that call in the derby.

Maximum Security was among the heavier bet horses as the favorite, with one report of $6.2 million to win and another $2.7 million to place or show, per*David Purdum. By comparison, there was roughly $520,907 on Country House to win.

I had the #1 and had my eye on him the entire race. He was taken a hold because he was keen early. He settled on the backstretch, and approaching the turn the jockey was looking for a path.

He found one turning for home, made his move, then MS comes out 2 paths. WOW clips heels and could have gone down.

MS was placed 17th behind Long Range Toddy, one of the horses that was impeded.

There is a difference between race riding and bumping, and cutting off a horse that nearly causes a chain reaction accident. If that horse falls we have a tragedy talked about for years. I don't care if its the Derby, you can't do that.

This is beyond ridiculous.

Go back & watch the past 30 derbies from start to finish & you will see a ton worse......you can't pick & choose. You gotta call it every time, or don't call it at all, especially in a 20 horse field.....hence 145 years of no disqualifications.
