Joey Gallo is a unique player. So it’s only fitting that his fourth-inning home run, the 100th of his career, in Wednesday’s 9-6 winover the Pirates at PNC Park put him atop a couple of record books.
Gallo’s two-run homer, his 12th long ball of the year, came in his 377th career game. With it, he passed Mark McGwire (393) as quickest player to reach 100 homers in American League history. In the Major League record books, Ryan Howard (325) and Ralph Kiner (376) are the only players to get to the century mark in fewer games

That's highly significant, Bumper !
I don't know very much about the guy but a prolific HR slugger fits in well in today's style of baseball, any team would have to fit him in the lineup somehow , unless he costs a shit-ton of money , and/or can't field any position and is a DH only sort, then his value would be diminished, but still not entirely negated.

That would be hard to believe, I don't think that is even possible ?

You just made me do a google search (i wish i could cut and paste this)

249 career hits
100 of em are homers
6 triples
50 doubles
that makes 93 singles.

Crazy!!

On top of that, he has 524 career strike outs

I believe you, but I'll bet no other player in history has numbers like that !

Mr. All or nothing, I'm gonna hit a HR or strikeout, might accidently get a base hit here and there. This sort of mentality rarely fares well in the playoffs against elite pitching.

After a quick glance at his stats, not bad
.210 career batting average , plays first, third, even OF, steals some bases which is amazing since he rarely is on first base, he's only like 25, can't be making a ton of money, looks like he can field his position, appears to be improving every year, a unique player and HR hitters are highly valued commodities in today's game. It does seem like he lacks the ability to play to the game situation...like all you need to win this extra inning game is a single, sac fly etc., Don't go for the Homer, but I might be wrong ?

Absolutely horrible comparison.

Juan Gonzalez was one of the best outfielders of his era. He had a long 16 year career. Not only hit for power, but had a career batting average of .295.

He won two American League MVP awards.

Nothing about Joey Gallo's resume stacks up or resembles anything close to a player like Juan Gonzalez at this point in their careers.

Joey Gallo and Bryce Harper played on the same little league team in Vegas. there was a picture out there during a little league all star game where Gallo, Bryant, and Kris Bryant were on the same team. now that is a murder's row of little league trio.

Didnt he hit 100 homers before he hit 100 singles?

Yes. Far and away the fewest singles for a 100 HR guy in MLB history.

Saw a tweet w next seven and save for Ryan Howard not a single notable postseason impact....And Howard pretty much was done by age 30

The Rangers would be really smart to deal Gallo ASAP as they could likely secure two or even three arms that will have real ML potential

+10

Juando was a very unhappy personality but was also key to Texas making playoffs three years in four

Gallo is quite frequently on first base with 75 BB in 2017 and 2018.

He may well have raised his game here in first six weeks from past two yrs of .323 OBP and if so, Rangers could get even more.

But if he regresses, he rankly appears to be just another Carlos Pena

A guy that will take a walk is valuable too, I didn't examine his stats in depth, but that's the only way you could have stolen bases without hitting many singles
