The 24th horse was put down yesterday after shoulder injury. 24 horses were put down for various injuries in the past 6 months. Nothing consistent (e.g. broken leg, shoulders, lung, illness, etc). 24 horses in 6 months man. You'd think the race track would shut down to figure this shit out. Hell if I were an owner I sure as hell wouldn't take my horse there.

Ownership always makes some lame statement about the rarity of these various injuries but they continue to pile up.

Has this stuff always gone on but it’s now that it’s being brought to light? Is it the frequency? I know horses get put down.

These owners have vets to check out how there horses are doing so IMO its either the owners fault for running a horses that should not be running until healthy because of the money they have tied up in the horse or the Vets not saying anything about this. Its weird that this only happening at Santa Anita and not any where else.

I'll be the first to admit I know nothing about the horse racing business. But man, that's averaging 5 horses a month being put down.

BALTIMORE, MD — A horse died crossing the finish line at Pimlico Race Course Friday in Baltimore. Congrats Gal collapsed and died at the end of a race, according to Fox 45. The horse had a heart attack during the Miss Preakness Stakes at Black-Eyed Susan Day

Stop blaming the owners. Most owners leave race decisions to their trainers. That's why they pay them.

Owners are busy living their lives, working, family, etc. The trainers JOB is to manage the horses.

wondered myself found...… Nearly 10 horses a week on average died at American tracks in 2018 according to Jockey's Club Equine Data Base. That fatality rate is anywhere from 2 1/2 to 5x's greater than most of race world.

Death at Preakness yesterday same owner
Charles Briggs owned both horses that died yesterday. also said he is a vet?
. "Nothing’s broken or anything like that"

I think the sample size speaks for itself at Santa Anita. Somethings going catastrophically wrong there and the track owners continue to dismiss what's going on. I think an investigation is long overdue.

Would have to agree with you 3peet. I keep seeing these headlines popping up and the latest one had me roll my eyes and think “again?”. Hopefully this gets resolved if there is a common denominator for the reason of all this.
