bodexpress should of been declared a non-starter. the assistant starter clearly had a good hold
on the horse when the gate opened which caused the horse to bolt and lose his jockey.
the rules of racing are 100% clear on this and unlike some other sports instant replay CAN
and MUST be used by the stewards to make decisions. the reason for the wrong non-decision is clear.
it's greed. there was over $30 million bet on this race and although the actual return to the
track depends upon the type of wager and where it was placed; it's pretty easy to extrapolate
that declaring him a non-starter would cost the track hundreds of thousands of dollar.
even though bodexpress was 20-1 and only took up 4% of the win pool, he would take up
much higher % of the other pools. probably 15% of the tri pool, 20% of the super pool,
and 25% of the super high 5 pool. the financial consequences of their decision was NOT
lost upon them and they decided to protect the track's bottom line rather than protecting
the bettors. i'm outraged over this travesty.

Where did you see a closeup showing the starter still holding the horse when the gate opened? I'd love to see that.

Bodexpress was my key horse.

I had him "all"ed first, second, and third in .50 cent tris. Cost me $198.00. Not good losing that before the race was even run.

worse than a tough beat, it was decision totally based upon the benjamins
while ignoring what is right or wrong.

Thanks, Gravy.

Great view. The starter knew he blew it. Very visible by his reaction. The stewards are really botching their responsibility in the first two legs of the Triple Crown. But, congrats to War of Will. Gafflione waited for the rail to open today. He got it and War of Will was the best today. Very different from two weeks ago.

No problem, Bob. I've done this long enough to know there's some really good luck (like if you had Country House to win two weeks ago) and some rally bad luck. The bad luck (had Maximum Security two weeks ago and Bodexpress yesterday) is following me around for the first two legs of this Triple Crown. I'll be right back at it next Saturday.

so one might say that the stewards must be blind, incompetent, or do not know the rules to make
that non-decision or maybe, just maybe, the track's bottom line impacted their decision.
it certainly is MY opinion as the stewards haven't had a press conference to discuss this;
but it does seem pretty clear what their motivation was.

You clearly don't know anything about horse racing and should stop commenting on it and leave it to the grownups in the building.

If you watch the video, you will see the asst. Starters arm go up as the horse leaves the gate, he still had a hold on his reins

great spot another boo-boom for the sport! Jockey Jonny V. #9 streak winless streak continues and if it matters or if anyone is betting Owendale will win the Belmont if he runs and his reins are free... :103631605

You are right, I definitely know nothing about horse racing
and you are clearly the adult here. However, I do know grammar
and your response is what I believe is called a run on
sentence. That’s probably about fourth or five grade
level grammar. I’m sure it was just an oversight from you
and I take no joy or have no ill intentions about pointing it out.
Do I have your permission to still post here, sir?

I didn’t say that he shouldn’t have been declared a non starter. I’m saying that his assumption that the stewards didn’t rule that way because of the track take out is ridiculous and If believe it too, well quite frankly it wouldn’t surprise me. That horse hasn’t even won race to boot. :ohno:

I believe the correct tense would have been "fourth or fifth grade", as opposed to "fourth or five grade". Just saying lol.
